Only if you are a fucking bible believing idiot. God may not be able to grow back a limb but science is well on its fucking way. Science 1 God 0

I think it is pretty apparent to most us here that there is no god. Closest thing we can find?

Ourselves.

Take the most modern aircraft carrier fleet available today. Take the fleet (and maybe a few satellites in the air) back, ohh, 200 years into human history past.

That fleet admiral would probably pretty neatly be able to fill most of the definitions of "god" for all humans back then.

He, (or she!) would have extraordinary capacity for destruction, and aid. With a wave of a hand, (and a staff member in the back pushing a button,) he/she could make entire countries disappear. But could also with the medical staff and medical facilities on board, save the lives of people that at that time would almost certainly mean death. The fleet admiral could easily rule the entire world unopposed, as any that dared not to, would die from "fire that came from the sky."

Now if humans continue to progress, at ever increasing rates like we have been. Can you even begin to imagine what the most fortunate/powerful people can do 100 years from now?

Already we got folks driving drones in an air conditioned/comfortable bunker, halfway around the world, that can with a push of a button decide who lives and dies, with zero risk/danger to themselves. Almost like a boring/slow video game.

This virus is fast forwarding digital/internet adoption. The latest VR goggles are getting better, lighter, more realistic, they are close to eliminating the "screen door" effect in VR goggles, increasingly from a pure visual/audio stand point the tech can replicate reality to the point it begins to seperate VR from reality. Drones, and other robots increasingly become an extension of ourselves. That can be remade. Building a working replacement for a lost limb is still pretty hard. But in the digital world it is not even necessary.

If progression continues I do not think its a stretch to say some folks living 100 years from now, will have god like abilities/powers to even us in 2020.

"I think it is pretty apparent to most us here that there is no god:

Important point.

I've never made such a claim, nor actually met an atheist who has. Perhaps stick to simply speaking for yourself rather than presuming to know what others think .

For the record ; I do not believe in god(s) because of a lack of evidence. I've never seen any. I do not claim to know. The non existence of god is neither obvious nor clear to me. If it were, it would be a simple matter to prove. Yet the existence of gods and what happens when we die remain two of the great mysteries for human beings.

So far, nobody in recorded history has managed to prove nor disprove the proposition 'There is a god" or"there is no god". Imo each proposition is unfalsifiable.

I call myself an agnostic atheist , and live day to day AS IF there is no god. I refrain from making claims because I cannot prove such claims.

IF there is a god and he's the monster of the Torah I'm fucked. If he/she is the infinitely compassionate and forgiving god of my childhood, then I'm covered.

I think you meant to @logicftw and not cognostic :)

You are right, I am tired, and in a bit of a rush.

Normally I type it out:

"I think it is pretty apparent to most atheist that the likelihood god/religion ideas is human created fiction rather than reality, is pretty obviously heavily slanted to human created fiction."

Of course "god" is such a broad term. Eventually you have to decide how does one person define "god."

I have seen some folks come in, and describe such a vague god idea, they define it out of existence themselves (outside of time and space") others describe it as some sort of vague "creator" that started everything, (to me that just describes the big bang, only minus the observational data gathered from the big bang.) Or simply describe the universe as "god." (why not just call it the universe and avoid the confusion?)

Just about everyone agrees most every "god" idea is at least partially, if not completely wrong. Typically the more religiously "devout" the are to their particular brand the more strongly the feel about this. Even going to war against people that have a different god idea then they do. Try to suggest to them that RA is real, or thor or loki and likely at first they won't take you seriously, then possibly ridicule you, but certainly not "accept" that god idea is the correct one, and their own the wrong one.

All that said, I am happy to go on record saying:
I think the possibility of any of the various god ideas described by humans actually being anywhere close to actual reality so incredibly remote I am willing to bet all of eternity on: that all the various god ideas are just fictional stories that can be ignored as fictional. Just like I am willing to do the exact same for their being scary monsters hiding under my bed.

@Cranky: That " " was not

@Cranky: That " " was not anything I said.

You want to confront "Logic." At the same time.... The sentence begins..... "I think" Doesn't that mean he is speaking for himself?

I think, a lot of the people on the site do agree with the idea that there is no God. I see those exact words stated now and again. If you check my posts, I generally challenge atheists who make such claims. Logic, did not make a claim however. He simply stated his opinion. "I think."

I think, you are 100% correct. When atheists make such claims they can be challenged just as we Challenge Christians. "What god are they talking about and how do they know?"

Yes, oops. Silly old me.

I may have misread .Seemed to me he was making a claim about the beliefs of others.

My apologies to both if I misunderstood.

"I think, a lot of the people on the site do agree with the idea that there is no God"

Mmm, not the impression I've gained since I've been here . ' My impression is 'most people here ' are soft atheists ,as am I. IE don't believe but make no claims . I guess I could be filtering through my own position .

I'll post a survey as soon as I work out how. If my perception is wrong, I'd like to know.,
