3 years ago I stopped believing in God. During that time, I also became a traditionally published Sci-Fi author. I noticed that in media and books atheists are almost always depicted negatively so I wanted to create the opposite.
Golden Skies, my debut novel, came out in June of this year. It's about a young atheist named Malik who is trying to save his hometown from his religious tyrant father; he gets sent to a torture camp because he doesn't believe. I heavily symbolize ISIS and the Syrian War, and there's new technology like jetpacks and force shields.
When I made it, I had the atheist community in mind. If you guys wanna check it out, I'd be honored. 53 ratings on Goodreads and 23 reviews on Amazon!

Ewww..... smells like self promotion. You may not make it through the night. Nice to have a book out there like that but...... I think you are just a bit too forward with your advertising for the site. I could be wrong......
It is self-advertising, but I was telling the truth in my post. It took years of work and a lot of headaches and painful rejections before I finally got this book made. I didn't self-publish it and throw it together. It was accepted by a publisher and went through extensive editing. All I wanted to do is share it. Though if I am breaking the rules, I have no problem if it gets taken down and I get suspended. I won't violate them again, of course.
Thank you for sharing, but you should move this to the atheist book club section of the forum.
I concur with SSoaBE. This would make an excellent addition to the Atheist Book Club section. That is where we mention these things.
When I choose to start a new thread the option isn't available to me. How would I go about this? I don't want to break any rules.
On your post: Select EDIT > Go to the FORUMS drop down box > Select the Book Club Option > Save your edit.
I hope it helps and congrats on launching your book! I wish your numbers to be ever growing =)
Thank you! :D
I think it’s wonderful that there’s finally a work of fiction in which the main characters are atheists! It’s about time that we heathens and freethinkers were portrayed in a positive light! Goatspeed, Juan.
P.S. Recently, I’ve been thinking of making a role-reversed version of God’s Not Dead- God’s Not Real, anyone? I’ve even written an essay on RationalWiki that it could be based upon: https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Essay:Christian_Highschool_Teacher_Myth
@Juan
Looked up a preview of your book. Sounds interesting. Oh, and if you ask one of the mods, they should be able to get this transferred into the Book Club forum. CyberLN or Nyar should be able to assist you with that.
Thank you! I tried to save it and change the section but Atheist Book Club was again closed off. I sent CyberLN a message though!
It's still here. Apparently the mods think the post is worthwhile and it is certainly generating some feedback so Goodonyou! Nice to see someone out there stretching the boundaries of good literature.
Maybe take a warmer approach next time? Or not. Either way, We are the rulers of our own destiny.
I’ve seen your book’s page on amazon.com, and it sounds amazing! I even mentioned it in an email to the staff of this website, when I received a newsletter from them in which they asked for suggestions on new atheist books, and I suggested that they make more fiction novels of the atheist/secularist genre, like yours. Not only would it create an excellent counter to all of those religious propaganda books and films, but it would also help paint a more positive image of heathens like you and me.
Keep it up!
I am going so far to say I'm buying your book... as soon as my next paycheck comes in lol
I’d also like to read it some day. It sounds pretty epic! The first of a new genre.
Thank you so much for the support! I really do hope mine is the first of a fiery new genre - the more normalized atheism is, the more people won't blink at the concept or write it off. In the long run, it would be hard for people to even dislike atheists if a lot of the heroes they read or see on screen are nonbelievers.
It already happening slowly in some tv shows. There's a medical drama called New Amsterdam where the main character said just last night that he has no religion. It was cool to see that.
Well, if this new generation is any indication, then we may have some shred of hope. I know my stepson and stepdaughter (both in their twenties) are of the mindset that religion is a bunch of nonsense. And a few of their friends I have met seem to follow that mentality also. So that is a bit promising, at least. Getting more mainstream books and shows and other entertainment venues about atheism out there would certainly be a plus. Now I am even more curious to read your book.
