I actually saw the following message this afternoon on one of those near ubiquitous sign boards that are outside US churches:
"God favors a kindly atheist over a hateful christian."

That is like saying "God favors a turd over a hateful Christian" . Meaning hateful Christians are the lowest of the low.
Still, it seems like progress to me! :)
