Christian hatred for homosexuality goes well beyond the bigots of the Westboro Baptist Church. It is rooted in a blind obedience to an outdated code of conduct which states if any homosexual dare be anything other than celibate, they should be put to death. This religious hatred is responsible for some of the most devastating tragedies of our times, and it is time for it to end.
About the Author
I grew up in East Texas and now resides in San Antonio. I am the grandson of a Pentecostal preacher and have a sister who is a born again Christian. I am also the proud father of a twelve year old daughter. I studied for my AA while living in Seattle, focusing on mathematics, journalism and philosophy. It was during this time that I studied the religions of Islam, Buddhism and Taoism. Each of them seemed just as empty as any other religion. I have been a member of the online atheist community for over ten years.
Free speech is being threatened all over the eastern hemisphere by those who wish to silence others who speak out against religion. Freedom is a gift, which when allowed to flourish, will flush out bigotry all by itself. No censorship required. In fact, censorship and coercion can be outright counterproductive.
Proverbs 13:24 reads “He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.” The biblical concept of "spare the rod and spoil the child" has encouraged and condoned hundreds of millions of cases of child abuse throughout history. Blind devotion to such monstrous nonsense continues to taint Christianity with brutality to this very day, and is still killing kids.
One thing that annoys me even more than hearing stupidity from theists is hearing it from an atheist. There are some new atheists who are as blind followers as they were when they were sitting in the pews and there are some old atheists who were never firing on all cylinders to begin with. Here are some of the silliest things I’ve hears from atheists.
There are several reasons why I simply don’t argue with creationists anymore. The first among them being time. There was a time when evolution was unconfirmed. There was a time when we didn’t have thousands of fossils. There was a time when we had no genetic evidence of evolution whatsoever. There was a time when the evidence for evolution was not readily available to the general public. That time has long since passed.
