Why atheism is important

Hi, im an atheist living in a Christian Community..

In the country where i live in, you often get to meet atheists, all my neighbors are Christians, and i often find myself in a heated debate with some theists, it feels so lonely as i have not meet any atheists in my place lately, and as long as i am surrounded by these theist people i feel like i am being swallowed by all their biblical religious lectures..

I want to know the truth that's all that matters to me, and for me atheism is important because it took away the shackles that religion had placed in my mind, now i feel more free than ever..

Why atheism is important? Shed some light,.. many thanks and more power.,

A Xian community is one made

A Xian community is one made up of two percent who 'know' their so-called holy scriptures and ninety eight percent who know only the superficial bits and pieces of family say-so. And, that two percent also knows the wide spread bogusness of their so-called bible. The self identified atheist of #1, has always been free of mind.

Atheism is very important

Atheism is very important because it releases us from the shackles religion, poisoning our minds to believe things in ways we shouldn't. If you are to believe all your life that there is a being that protects us and will reward us for all the good things that we have done here in our life on earth, then it must mean that that being is so evil for him to let us feel the suffering of decaying when getting old, being a victim of slow and painful deaths of being trapped in a building for months because of the earthquakes that that god is doing himself. If truly there is a god that cares, do you think he will let us feel pain at all? I'm not sure about you but I'm not buying that kind of stuff.

Being an atheist or someone

Being an atheist or someone who does not believe in miracles without sincere efforts, I learned to love human beings than focusing on things that discriminate each other.

I am basically in the same

I am basically in the same situation as you, minus the problems. I am a carefree, generally fun person, so I think positively most of the time. For me, Atheism is important not only because of the release from the (IMO) poisonous words and ideas of *some* religions, but in the sense that you are not guided blindly by a deity that you haven't even met, and you guide yourself. You don't need faith or hope as an atheist, but you still need to try, try to be in an independent state of mind, and just be your true self. I say this because very religious people probably aren't their own self, because of the metaphorical shackles that bound them to the wall of religion.

Atheism is important because

Atheism is important because it looks for logical explanations for things. Not just denying the exietence of god for the sake of being rebellious.

Some of the most brilliant

Some of the most brilliant minds have been atheists, and only even attempted science because they only believed what could be proven.

Atheism is important because

Atheism is important because reason and logic and facts are important -- without them, civilization is doomed.

I feel Atheism is important

I feel Atheism is important because somebody needs to be there when theist get out of hand. Unfortunately theist offer little protection from other theist under the same deities and atheist can bring a voice of reason to a bad situation from the outside. This helps with checks and balances. Not needed all the time but when a theist group starts to get out of hand sometimes the atheist is the only person who can make a difference and sometimes these differences can save lives. I think if you poled all the guest at churches you would be surprised how many people there were atheist just along for the ride because of a spouse or for some other reason I knew an atheist family that used to attend churches because they thought the interiors were beautiful. My father is an atheist and attends church every week.

I also feel Atheism is important because it brings a point of view that is less paradigm or restricted than one that is governed by most religious deities. By not being dictated your beliefs by a religion one can more openly explore and question things a religious person may find to be sacrilegious, like certain fields of science or other religious belief systems thereby enabling atheist to better understand how things work and further the worlds knowledge of things through their contributions to society that once again can save the lives and/or improve the lives of everybody. Freer minds know less limits and atheist have freer minds. I am not saying just because an atheist has more freedom to explore an atheist is smarter than a religious person I am just saying they are less limited and with that comes certain advantages that benefit us all.

Atheism is extremely valuable

Atheism is extremely valuable if properly applied in life. It brings us to a very basic and simple reality that nothing happens because of fivine intervention. Everything good and bad that happens to us is a direct reaction to all the things we do or dont do in life. If you live by this rules you will have a much more fulfilling life. Stop blaming your problems on god or destiny and take control of your life.

Atheism is important because

Atheism is important because we do not acuse ourselfes for being guilty of being good and caring only because we belive we would be punished otherwise. We are part of this beautifull universe and everything we do will impact everything around us. It is our duty as highest known peek of evolution to lighten that top with knowlegde and logic and not with myths religion and other rubish... if I may share a link : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0ZqQznblZo

Atheism receives its

Atheism receives its importance and indeed its very existence from theism. There can't be atheism without theism. Ideally, it shouldn't be important at all, just as all the other things you lack belief in are not that important. It's no more novel that we don't believe in gods than it is that we don't believe in leprechauns, unicorns, Santa, or whatever else. The difference is that there aren't large organizations of people with social and political influence peddling those beliefs, so being "aleprechaunist" has little significance. Only because people go around asserting the existence of deities, voting on laws or getting into wars based on the alleged commands of these deities is atheism important. It's a counterweight to using mythology as justification for actions that impact others. Therein lies its importance.

Atheism is that defiant

Atheism is that defiant rebellions part of human nature. We are not meant to follow doctrines that dont make sense. We are just another animal on earth trying to survive and we don't need to much crap stuffed into our brains. The way the human mind works is not meant to be ruled in such way.
