Chillax. They are

Chillax. They are communities of like-minded people getting together. Some join to gain friends, some to perform community service, some to get additional information, some to have fun. Again, chillax.

It's a good place for people

It's a good place for people to get together in a world where it is hard to find fellow non-believers. I do agree that churches is not the best thing to call them, it kind of diminishes the meaning of being an atheist... but the idea of getting together is good.

But atheism isn't a belief

But atheism isn't a belief system. The only ting that all atheists have in common is that they are not theists.

Yes meds dont just mess my

Yes meds dont just mess my short term memory preventing me learning but i also have trouble spelling words if i dont use them often.
Avoiding people because of a little distress is cowardice to me. I sincerely feel religion is a blight and we should gently challenge theists to examine their beliefs and evidence.

Yea they should be called

Yea they should be called 'atheist houses' or something. A church is a Christian house of worship.

I agree. The word church is

I agree. The word church is very offputting in this context. Can't it just be a social club or something?

I like the sound of lodge. I

I like the sound of lodge. I could be wrong but maybe calling them church's gets them the same tax breaks religions get?

Danny Craft's picture
Yea I can see Atheist Lodge :

Yea I can see Atheist Lodge :) sounds good.. n yea not sure about the tax thing?
.. Whatever the reason, it's a pretty dumb move. It's unnecessarily complicating what is actually a very simple matter. And of course, ammo for the theists "if atheism isn't a religion, then why do you have churches" .... eeeeerrm? I dunno!

Bad new guys apparently

Bad new guys apparently atheism is now a religion the reason is to get the same rights theists get.

Danny Craft's picture
In the case of 'rights'..

In the case of 'rights'.. fare enough, we all should have the same rights. But just because someone says it is now officially a religion, it still doesn't make it so.

Religion - the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods.
Atheism - disbelief or lack of belief in the existence of God or gods

See, they're antithetical.
.. The best way I heard that I like to describe this is; atheism is no more a religion than 'off' is a tv channel.

Danny Craft's picture
No.

No.
.. Science - the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behaviour of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment

I haven't looked into Scientology at all though, maybe they do?
.. But nah, and I think I speak for a lot of, if not all, Atheists when I say no, we do not worship science.. Although science is, in my opinion, a logical bases for all opinions, since it only deals with what we know and what we know we don't know. To form beliefs on anything else but facts is actually very dangerous, as the current state of the world demonstrates.

Agreed :)

I can admit i believe in

I can admit i believe in evolution (i dont worship it i believe its a fact) but thats because of all the evidence if anything disproved it id be able to change my mind.
The key thing to an atheist is evidence sorry but if anything defies science its religion theyve tried to suppress most of the important breakthroughs.

Id like you to cite me just

Id like you to cite me just one instance where religion tried to interpose itself for the welfare of man
I can cite many where it was to the detriment had they succeeded. Galileo Leonard's study of anatomy without which no surgery. The use of printing press. They wanted us norms kept dumb.

Hell they even tried to stop

Hell they even tried to stop the bible being translated from latin to english!!
