Grinseed, Sheldon,

Grinseed, Sheldon,

Thanks. Actually means something from y'all. But usually all I do on me birthdays is get a bottle of Highland Park or Glenlivet and couple of Honduran Dark Maduros. For me, birthday parties are more for children. When I celebrate me birthday, I just want a nice quiet day to do nothing. Well, almost nothing...

arakish,

arakish,

"@ Grinseed, but everyone else"

Your ancient Greek sentence is written in the modern Greek alphabet. It's not really ancient.

"In Ancient Greek:
άρκσοντας αποκαλύπτω να εμάς ένα οιωνός του νεαρός γυναίκα θα δίνω γέννησε να ένα υιός εμείς θα λένε αυτός είναι θεός με μας"

I know. It is the keyboard program I use to switch between American Latin letters to Greek Letters. I don't have one that utilized Ancient Greek Script. So... I just have to use what I have.

And thank you for pointing that out. I should have mentioned that, but you know how Alzheimer's can be ;-P.

Thanks, dude.

Well, well, well... a thread

Well, well, well... a thread that touches on my field of expertise.

I'm a seismic engineer, so nice to see the words volcanic, earthquake and tsunamis in any thread...

If anyone can claim to predict when one will specifically go off, or that's is underlining cause is not of natural or man made reasons... Well I'll give you my salary.

..... because it's bollocks!

Claiming to be a prophet and making claims about what will happen is no different to old Bob in the bookies telling you that 'Horse X' will win the Grand National (a horse race in the UK).

It's taking a punt... you'll likely most of the time be completely wrong, but by the laws of probability you'll likely get one right.

It means less then sod all.

Fantastic Arakish!

Fantastic Arakish!

We've just recently been helping the Chinese (amongst many, but myself specifically) as they are making a huge investment in early warning instruments.

But my hope is to travel to those very spots in America, either due to work or vacation.

My biggest disappointment was that I could not convince them to let me go to Hawai'i and watch Fissure 8 and the river of lava. I wanted to go so badly, but they wouldn't let me take vacation or leave of absence. I find volcanoes like Kilauea so fascinating.

Heartbreaking! I'd have loved too as well!

I watched the data coming in (image attached, was from one day of activity.

I did go recently to the Czech Repbulic where they are seismic monitoring in mountains, and the number of huge lightning strikes destroying equipment even with surge protection is astonishing.

Mother nature is amazing.

The original text of Mark was

The original text of Mark was written as a work of fiction ... and the audience (it was a play) were expected to understand it as such.

All the people of the Judaean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to John and were baptised by him and confessed their sins.

To me it's bleeding OBVIOUS!

A mass conversion of the Jews of Judaea and Jerusalem to a different way of thinking is the opening scene.

So who "started the ball rolling"?

Who wrote it?

As things progress its obvious that the play was written to be performed before a sophisticated audience ... it was not for the "riff raff".

One could take, say, a Shakespeare play, alter it, pad it out with extra stuff ... and turn it into a religious tract. Hamlet really existed you know ...

Matthew made up all the stuff about Jesus' childhood.

Once again assertions with no evidence at all.

The first two chapters of Matthew (an anonymous text) were inserted at a much later date. The Jewish christians right up until the 5th century were using their own version which did not contain those first two chapters crucial to the Paulines and the "fulfilment of prophecy". If it were not for Eusebius and others who castigated these original christian sects we would not know that they had gospel texts that seemed to have predated the later versions and that had significant differences to the later copies venerated by the Roman church and used as 'proof of prophecy'

There is some scholarship that these texts and the adoptionist traditions survived in and around Medina where Mohamed picked up the stories. Certainly the jewish christian tradition remained strong in the area until the 9th century and possible later.

And here is another thing I

And here is another thing I hate about us stupid speakers of English.

The Greek word: αποκαλύπτω (apokalýpto; apocalypse) actually means "to reveal" or "to show" or "to make known by revelation"

Yet us dumb ass speakers of English changed its meaning to "a great disaster; a catastrophic cataclysm."

Why can't us English speakers get anything correct?

Christianity evolved from a

Christianity evolved from a play. It's all there in Mark ... just strip away the interpolations and additions. Why are atheists so hostile to evidence that the New Testament ia a "Holy Fraud"? That's what many scholars call it.

The Koran is also a Holy Fraud ... in many tespects much more subtle then the New Testament.

"Christianity evolved from a play

And here we are again, an assertion entirely without any evidence, citations or proof save your opinion.

WE have no idea how many (apart from the obvious anachronisms) fraudulent entries there are in 'Mark'. We were not there to see how many insertions, alterations and interpolations there have been through successive copyists, to maintain this utterly baseless idea is an entertaining notion but not backed by facts.

Most atheists I know accept that the Entirety of the NT (and most of the OT) is in most ways fraudulent. But that is just you making another baseless claim...right?
