The United States of America

The United States of America leads the world in just three categories. It is number one in military spending (it outspends the next seven nations combined), the percentage of those incarcerated, and the percentage who believe in angels.

It is 53rd in life expectancy, 18th in happiness, 45th in crime, 29th in health care, and 13th in quality of life.

Only three nations have not accepted the metric system, the US, Myanmar (Burma), and Liberia.

Unfortunately, the US lifestyle is basically one of choices, not freedoms. You are allowed just two political parties to vote for, you get to choose between cheeseburgers or chicken wings, pay your fine or lawyer up, and be a Democrat or Republican.

Humble Thinker, you have a multitude of choices available, but you are not allowed to deviate from the menu.

If you believe you are so great, then why are you the only nation that has dropped nuclear bombs on civilians?

FYI, I had a clear shot at living and working in the USA, and declined.

With all due respect to the OP, this is too far a deviation. If you would like to start a new thread I would happily contribute.

My post was a response to your statement "America is THE best country to live in."

I will respond as I wish, and if you do not want me to respond, then do not state that in the first place.

I'm pretty sure we have more

I'm pretty sure we have more police officers than any other country in the world as well. There are 17,985 U.S. police agencies in the United States which include college campus police, sheriff departments, local police, and federal agencies. Federal, state, local and city departments, all have their own rules Each and every department wants to arrest you. Policing for profit is the American system. When an agency makes an arrest, they get to keep any money involved in that arrest. When the police write a ticket, the courts (The City) keeps the fines. A police officer justifies his position by writing tickets, as many tickets as he can. This is how he pays for his own salary. Police are not paid for hunting down murderers, rapists, or muggers. Regular people pay their fines and they are called "PROFIT." Rapists, muggers, vagrants, murderers, etc... are called criminals and they are called "DEFICIT." They cost the system money. There is no reason at all to chase down a murderer because it costs the police, FBI, Highway Patrol, State Police, and Sheriffs as well as the Department of Forestry money, The old idea of solving crimes as a part of the job is now an activity to be done in one's spare time. America is a Police State.

America is THE best country to live in.

Lemme guess, you are white, male, and lived at least a middle class, (or higher) lifestyle so far and part of a religion that dominates the town/area you live in, and/or was raised in?

If you were poor and of color, you probably would not be singing the praises of the US so highly. For many of these people the US is a 3rd world country that traps people in a cycle of poverty and the US justice system obviously is highly highly tilted towards the rich against the poor. (If you are poor conviction rates -regardless of guilty or not- are well over 50%) where if you are rich, conviction rates are well below 50% regardless if you are guilty or not.

What I “am” is beside the point. Let me guess. You are a liberal white male who thinks he is doing justice in the world by allowing gay marriage and late term abortions...?

Well, that should be an interesting response from our self effacing one! *breaks out Popcorn, Choc Bombs and parks camping chair with intravenous supply of Cabernet Sauvignon on tap* "proceed, I am ready for the sparklers"

Aww, david. why did you call @arakish arrogant? I mean, he is, but he's not even here to defend himself...

great video btw, gave me a good chuckle.

We all possess some level of

We all possess some level of arrogance Humble Thinker. That video highlights the fact that some merrily sail along until harsh reality forces them to wake up. For myself, I perform what I call a "harsh morality audit" and examine my actions for the last month, to discern where I am, where I am going, and what mistakes I made along the way. I am willing, and have changed my position and actions if I deem that my previous position or actions could be improved.

If we do not, then we are robbing ourselves of a potential all human beings possess, to improve. My mantra is that when I go to bed each night, I am smarter than when I woke up in the morning.

Excellent Post Logic.

Excellent Post Logic. Police, the courts, the government feed on the poor and ignorant. Just like Churches.

I wish the age requirement

I wish the age requirement post were true. The population of theists would drop significantly if children were precluded from being exposed to it.

Thank you...I agree. However

Thank you...I agree. However the impedance would be law. Law would have to change to limit indoctrination. The protection of children could be put to task presently. Freedom of religion is ok for adults, just not ok for children. Children can not purchase alcohol, or cigarettes or can not drive...why are not other harmful things restricted? Or is it ok that our children are raped within religious confines?

comoke1024's picture
Also, I don't see anything

Also, I don't see anything wrong with late term abortion or gay marriage.

On a personal level, neither one is my business. I'm not gay and no one is pregnant with a child who came from my loins. If either were true for me, it would be ONLY my business and no one else's.

On a political level...
There is no coherent argument against gay marriage. Here are a few I see:
"My religion teaches that it is wrong" - People not of that religion are not obligated to follow its tenets

"We are a Christian nation" (US argument, I am not sure of other countries) - 1 - No we aren't. Ben Franklin was an atheist, Thomas Jefferson was at the very least skeptical, so at best it is a mix. However, our Constitution is godless and we are in no way a theocracy.

"Marriage and sex are for procreation and homosexuals can't procreate." In vitro is a thing, but even putting that aside, if I see a couple that has sex for no reason except to have children, they can argue this case but any couples like that are in the vast minority.

As for abortion... No one has the right to use someone else's body to sustain themselves. If a guy urgently needs a blood transfusion and I am the only possible donor, I get to say no. A fetus, or unborn child if you prefer, doesn't get to have more rights than someone who has been born. An unborn child doesn't get to live off a woman's body without her consent.

My two cents on these issues! Very off topic, however. I hope that's alright.

Edit: fixed a typo. Stupid phone autocorrected to the wrong "it's" and stupid me not noticing... *grumble*
