Just like Utah, what if...?

The mormons actually settled Utah (eradicated the natives). When Utah joined the USA they had to adjust to the Constitution.
What if a band of Atheist actually took over a territory long ago. Would the USA have been as accommodating as they have been to the mormons to an entirely Atheist state?

In a similar line of questioning what if most atheists in America at present decided to all settle in a particular district/State? Would that District/State by its majority atheist population carve a place for itself in US politics.

I believe the answer is Yes (to both questions)

One thing you can be sure of is that the atheist territory would have become a magnet for wagon trains of proselytizing whackos intent on saving the atheists from themselves. Minding your own business is not a Christian virtue.

Wow, this is an interesting thought. We might not have been too very far from that with some of the framers of the constitution. Jefferson, Franklin and Thomas Paine were not too far from being Atheists. I think Algebe is right; the US state of Sanity would've been ground zero for proselytization.
