Russians return to the Orthodox Church

I was on Quora last night and read an interesting article on how the Russian Orthodox Church is growing with the fall of the Soviet Union.

The point of the article is that since Russia went from a duchy to an empire, when the USSR collapsed all those Russians didn't have a national country. Instead they are re-joining the Orthodox Church as a means of solidifying a cultural identity.

To me it is looking more and more that a belief in a deity is irrelevant to a religion. It is all about what tribe you belong to.

What are us theists to do?

I thought the group here would be interested in the article.
