"Nothingness" is a fair word

"Nothingness" is a fair word to describe my knowledge of Buddhist philosophy, so I am likely to screw it up. However, seems to me that true nothingness is an unobtainable goal, and that they are really just asking you to discard convictions and expectations. While it is true you will probably suffer less if you expect and hope for nothing, it would seem a pretty nihilistic way to live to me.
