The author of this engrossing and informative book, Mary Pope Osborne, has lived a rather colourful life herself. Having lived at army posts through her growing years, she decided to continue traveling after her graduation. After working as a bartender, waitress, acting teacher, window dresser, travel agent and medical assistant, Osborne decided to fully commit herself to writing books for children. Now, she has to her credit, many critically acclaimed picture books, middle-grade biographies, early chapter books as well as young adult novels.
