African American and Atheist

I've been anti-religion for most of my natural life, (since I was about 6 and began to notice things about religion that didn't sit right with me.) Well, I'm from an extended family and while I tend to think we're a pretty liberal family, however, religion is one of those things that my family members drag their feet through the mud. I told, when I was 14, that I believe that organized religion did more harm than good and I've received mixed responses, most of them negative. One aunt told me I was going to hell and one uncle told me it was about damn time I came out the metaphoric closet. I find that being being milk chocolate colored and an atheist is something of a novel thing still. At my school, most of the girls who are not white are active church goers and when they ask me if I would like to go to church with them, I tell them about my atheism and in return, they give me a funny look.

I'm wondering how other cocoa brown atheists are received in their own families and communities, can you tell me your experiences?

I had a very similar story. I

I had a very similar story. I use to think religion was a waste of time then at 13 I was convinced to join Christianity now I'm regretting it. I'm also African-American and have a christian family and I'm also anti-theist
