King James 2000 Bible: Luke 14:26 (Jesus shows his hatred of families throughout the New Testament. )
If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brothers, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

wait for it...can you hear the massed choir " You're taking it out of context" and of course from our very own JoC " "You don't know how to read the bible" and a lot of white noise from AB.
But on the face of it Yeshua bin Josef was pretty much saying "my way or the highway"...a bit like Alice Cooper or Pink Floyd in their "The Wall" days. A pretty sensible attitude for an anti establishment pop philosophy rebel.
I wonder if he had one of "those" conversations with Mary Magdalene the night before, you know the " If you don't get a proper job and start putting food on the table,I will have to take the kids and go back to mother....why don't you go back to your step Dad? A steady job. Its a lovely yard with lots of precious wood and you know Josef will get us a place to live, He loves you Yeshua, we just want you to settle down. I want a home, a real home Yeshua, don't you? "
I had a few like that in my early years! Puts one in a very grumpy mood.
Old Man shouts.......
The "out of context" argument ...... will not cover it ......
"Matthew
8:21 And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
8:22 But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.
10:21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death.
10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
19:29 And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.
Mark
10:29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's,
10:30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.
Luke
14:26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
12:51 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:
12:52 For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.
12:53 The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law
Seems to be a fairly rigid "anti family" attitude going on here.....
@watchman
Sounds like David Koresh doesn't it?
Mark 11:12-14
Now the next day, when they had come out from Bethany, He was hungry. And seeing from afar a fig tree having leaves, He went to see if perhaps He would find something on it. When He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. In response Jesus said to it, “Let no one eat fruit from you ever again.”
And His disciples heard it.
Matthew 15:21-26
Then Jesus went out from there and departed to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed.”
But He answered her not a word.
And His disciples came and urged Him, saying, “Send her away, for she cries out after us.”
But He answered and said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”
Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, help me!”
But He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.”
And why does he have to spit in peoples eyes to make them see? Could he not simply told people to hang around for a few thousand years and wait for laser surgery?
And he ... put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue. Mark 7:33
He took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought. Mark 8: 23
He spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. John 9:6
Even in that foreign, ancient language, I think that is pretty clear. And that is some seriously messed up shit !
1 Timothy 2:12, in which the saint says: "I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, she must be silent."
Exodus 22:18: "Do not allow a sorceress to live."
‘Now go and strike Amalek and devote to destruction all that they have. Do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’” (1 Samuel 15:3
The Babble is pretty much a shit show
and they're accusing atheist for judging the bible but the irony is they do the same thing...cherry picking?....so lame
I think Sapporo is having an identity crisis! Either that, or I'm starting to hallucinate.
How about, turn the other cheek, love your enemies, treat your neighbor as yourself and then take the weekend off, go down to the local market place and ......
John 2:15 (Jesus the God of do as I say and not as I do.)
And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables;
Took this pic a couple of days ago in front of a church just down the road from my Dad's house. By golly, if this isn't incentive enough to get you heathen bastards scrambling to join your local church, then I don't know what is. Almost ran up in there myself. The temptation was almost overpowering. (..... Well, okay, maybe not.)

Hmmm.... Now that you mention it, we DO have some damn good barbeque out here.
4 Maccabees 4:25 (CEB) = "Even women were thrown down from a cliff headfirst along with their infants because they continued to circumcise their sons, though they were fully aware that they would suffer the consequences."
2 Maccabees 14:37-46 (CEB) = "37 A Jerusalem elder named Razis was denounced to Nicanor as someone who loved the citizens, was well spoken of, and was called “Father of the Jews” because of his kindness. 38 Early on in the revolt, he had been put on trial for Judaism and risked body and soul for its cause. 39 Wanting to make public the hatred he had toward the Jews, Nicanor sent a group of more than five hundred soldiers to take him, 40 because he thought that by arresting him, he would create a problem for the Jewish people.[c] 41 When the mob was about to take the tower, forcing open the door of the courtyard, they commanded that the door be set on fire. Razis was surrounded on every side, so he fell on his own sword. 42 He wanted to die bravely rather than fall into the hands of sinners and suffer outrages unworthy of his own high birth. 43 But the blow didn’t strike its mark because of the haste of the struggle and the surge of the mob through the doors. Running with honor out onto the wall, he courageously threw himself down into the mob. 44 When they suddenly drew back, a space opened up, and he landed in the middle of it. 45 While still breathing and burning with anger, he rose up, ignoring the gushing blood and the terrible injuries, and made his way through the crowd to stand on a pile of rubble. 46 Entirely drained of blood, he tore out his intestines, took them in both hands, and threw them at the mob. As he did this, he called out to the one with authority over life and spirit to return his insides to him, and in this manner he died."
2 Maccabees 13:1-8 (CEB) = "In year 149[a] the news reached Judas’ followers that Antiochus Eupator was moving against Judea with a large army. 2 With him was Lysias, Antiochus’ guardian and head of the government. Each one had a Greek force of one hundred ten thousand foot soldiers, fifty-three hundred cavalry, and twenty-two elephants, as well as three hundred chariots armed with scythes. 3 Menelaus also joined them and encouraged Antiochus with many lies, not out of a concern for the safety of his homeland but because he expected that he would be set over the government. 4 The king of kings, however, aroused Antiochus’ anger against the sinner. When Lysias informed the king that this man was the cause of all the evils, Antiochus commanded that Menelaus be brought to Beroea and executed according to the custom there. 5 That place has a tower seventy-five feet tall and full of ashes with a steep rim on all sides leading into the ashes. 6 Here anyone guilty of temple robbery or other similar crimes is thrown down to their death. 7 In this manner the lawless Menelaus died. He didn’t receive a proper burial. 8 This was completely just, since he had committed many sins against the altar whose fire and ashes were holy, so in ashes he died."
This would make a great movie.
