Do you meet with an Atheist group?

A few years ago I sought out Atheist groups in my community but decided against joining without even attending one meeting. I felt that joining an atheist group was almost like joining a church since I would be with a group of people who are all like minded and putting forth the same views. I am thinking about attending meetings now simply to see what they are like - no one is forcing me to go! What are your experiences?

I do meet with 5 other atheists and we have very long debates about many topics. We are all over 40 and very much open to be convinced that religion is worth having around.
