RE: OP: RE: "Intrusive

RE: OP: RE: "Intrusive Thoughts overtake me."

The brain is a tool. It is no different than your arm or leg. It does what you want it to do. An infant that learns to walk must learn to control its legs. It learns to crawl, walk and run. If it wants to maximize potential it teaches its legs to do ballet, martial arts, run marathons, dance or whatever. The Brain is no different than an arm or a leg. You leave it alone, you don't train it, and it atrophies. You don't teach it and it becomes feral and does what it wants. It tells you that it is in charge.

Here is a perspective that may give you a hand. For the next minute, don't think about pink elephants. Don't think about pink elephants in ballet suits dancing around a circus rink. Don't think about them standing on their hind legs and twirling for the audience. Don't think about pink elephants with their arms outstretched and trunks high in the air. Now.... what have you been thinking about?

Trying not to think about something and thinking about something is the exact same thing. Trying not to think about Pink Elephants IS thinking about pink elephants. You can not, not think about something.

The way you get your mind off a topic is to distract it. You get it to think about something else. This is why physical activity is so good for depression. If you are out running or exercising, your brain is distracted by the physical activity. Even playing darts, golf, or board games like checkers or chess can shift awareness from one topic to another. Hell, try masturbating and see if that does not get your mind off a frigging topic. Ultimately, the way to not think about one thing is to simply find something else to think about. Something that you are just as interested in. Instead of bullshit miracles. why not read about miracles that are known fantasy but carry with them important life lessons. Something like "The Monkey King." CHANGE YOUR MIND AND YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR WORLD.

@Mikhael Re: Cog's advice

Do not think about Cog wearing nothing but a speedo. Do not think about Cog in a speedo covered in vanilla pudding. Do not think about Cog covered in vanilla pudding wearing a speedo while dancing to a Richard Simmons aerobics video with a banana in each hand. Oh, and while you're at it, do not think about Old Man wearing a two piece French bikini with a huge red clown nose and Bozo hair covered in baby oil while riding his trike in circles around Cog during his aerobics dancing. Do NOT think about those things.... *shudder*...

Photographs shuffle into the door rustling against one another.* (Monkey feet slightly askew as the big toes face one another, head down, hands clasped behind back.) "I never took your pictures. Tin has been lying to you. I don't need your pictures. Everyone knows who my distant human relatives were.

Depends on who you are asking. Many different folks here in many different time zones around the world. I am up for the moment, but will be going to bed shortly. What's on your mind?

@Mikhael: You should spend

@Mikhael: You should spend more time drawing and less time thinking. You are good at drawing and not so good at thinking. How about spending time drawing what you are thinking instead of just thinking about it? My guess is that when you draw you actually have some degree of freedom from thinking.

I do. Drawing is what I dedicate my life to honestly, it's what I/do/ and it's been so hard lately to draw at all because I'm so sick with anxiety. But I'm doing my beatnto work through it between appointments

Holy hell, dude. That is some fantastic work! I have always been jealous of people who have the ability to draw/paint like that. My wife is a painter, and she always amazes me with her abilities to create a wide variety of images. You have a wonderful gift. Don't allow that to be squandered away by useless worries over things that have no true bearing on your life. Focus on the things that make you happy and bring you peace. Leave all that other shit in the dumpster where it belongs.

Here is one of many from my wife...

This is one of her many abstracts. It's hanging in our upstairs hallway.

Edit to add: Wish the lighting in the photo was better so the more subtle details could be seen.

Tin, I love her colors, I'm

Tin, I love her colors, I'm such a sucker for good composition and color work. The first one is so soft and soothing to look at, and I live di-and triptych work like the second. I've always wanted to try one myself!

Thanks for your kind words. I miss drawing, I've done very little of it these past 2 months or so. Sleeping too, I miss sleeping. I'm hoping once I'm back on a healthy sleep schedule it will help me manage my anxiety better

Funny thing is, she never really liked abstracts either up until about two or three years ago. Her general attitude about them was basically, "What's the big deal? Just smear a bunch of different colored paint randomly about the board. Whoopie. How hard could it be?" And then..... *cue dramatic music clip*... she decided to attempt one. Took her about a week or so, if I remember correctly. (Normally she can do a painting within a day or two. I've even seen her do complete paintings within a couple of hours.) Anyway, she said she hated every minute of it, and that she was "emotionally drained" by the time she finished it... lol... Again, that was about two or three years ago.

Since then she has done several other abstracts. Some got sold, while the others remain here on our walls. But every time she does an abstract, it drains her more than any other paintings she does. But - hey - it's just a bunch of color smeared randomly over the canvas, right?.... *chuckle*...

That's awesome she can do

That's awesome she can do that much work so quick! I don't do a lot of painting personally though I enjoy it when I do. I do colored pencil, it takes me about 30 hours a piece, which can be like 3 weeks or 3 days like this one (I had a deadline )

Geeeez.... The detail on that

Geeeez.... The detail on that is phenomenal. And the hands are incredible. It is my understanding that human hands are the most difficult thing to draw/paint. And it's as if you can almost FEEL the texture of the clothing just from looking at it. Fantastic work!

...chuckle... Stand by. I have about four more to send. Showed my wife your work and told her what you said. She is seriously impressed with your work, especially when she found out it is colored pencils. Anyway, she wanted me to share these following four with you. Here we go...

This first one is from several years ago. Part of a series of paintings she did during a dark period she was going through...
