Near death experiences?

My family, upon finding out about my beliefs, have been doing their best to convert me back. Of course, their initial thought to get me back as quickly as they can is to show me videos of people's near death experience testimonies. These include tales of temporarily experiencing heaven/hell. I know the tactic behind this is to scare me into believing, but it hasn't. However, I would like to know what you all think about these visions. My belief is that what a person sees has a lot to do with their culture and fears. I'm sure there are similar testimonies from all religions, but Christianity is just the most publicized one. My mother always references an occurance in her college years where she apparently saw the figure of Jesus in front of her bed and she sat up. She had been having severe panic attacks around that time, which leads me to think it could have easily been a delusion.
What do you guys think about these "supernatural experiences"?
