O.M.G.

Hello everyone.
I'm fairly new to this community but I have always been an atheist. I have lurked this website for a while and I have decided to come out to ask a question.

As an atheist, how do you feel about the "oh my god!" expression? I use it by "mistake" sometimes as an idiomatic, but each time I also think of the irony and would rather say something more meaningful... since, you know, I have no god...

So what do tou guys say instead? or do you ise thr omg anyway?

Guess it's the same as holy

Guess it's the same as holy sh1t, f*ck me, kiss my @ss, bat sh1t crazy, or any other thing that any of us says. I don't think sh1t is holy, don't want that person to f*ck me or kiss my @ss, nor do I think that bat's sh1t is crazy. So saying OMG doesn't mean you have to have one. If anyone ever thinks you're being literal, you can set them straight. :-)

LOL, I actually enjoy using

LOL, I actually enjoy using the term OMG for the reason you point out. I find it ads humor to situations I might use it in, even if I am the only only one in on the joke.

At some point I made a weak

At some point I made a weak effort to change it to "oh my dog" and now say it without any conscious effort. Its as "nonsensical" as omg except that dogs exist and I love them and hope to one day have one. Still doing research into what's the best way to go about it. Probably rescue.

"Oh your god!" usually gets

"Oh your god!" usually gets some double-takes.

LOL, I have used that

LOL, I have used that jokingly when I have seen the expression forming on the OMG faces of theist before.

I had a really good friend

I had a really good friend who used "oh your god!" all the time. Trying to get into the habit of it myself. Also another one is "oh my science!", implying that what you believe in is science.

Well I use it as well. I

Well I use it as well. I think it's alright since you don't believe in it. Trying to say something else is like the Christians afraid of referring to Satan. I never make fuss about expressions when even the believers don't even mean them! For example when you sneeze you say: "Bless you". Well I mean it just became good manners to do so and I even use it.

I use omg when something that

I use omg when something that is unbelievable happens as most people do which I find funny and ironic since all my Christian friends and family use it in the same way.

Whats funny is saying omg is

Whats funny is saying omg is technically against christian beliefs.
I like to say ffs now for fks sake.
Though i do occasionally do omg out of habit its really a cultural phrase now tho not a religious one.
Still i try not to use it it gives theists ammunition even if they are blanks.

You can follow Richard

You can follow Richard dawkins example and say:
Oh My Goodness

The only reason we should

The only reason we should feel uncomfortable saying this, is when religious people call us out on it. It's obviously just a phrase, especially to us. People need to realize that.

You know what i just realised

You know what i just realised atheists that occasionally say my god or jeasus are quite possibly accidentally revealing they were christian.
I think thats why i sometimes slip up and use them. Ironically its in debates with a christian and i say something like my god your dumb.
