COMMANDER PERSONALITY (ENTJ, -A/-T)

"Commanders are natural-born leaders. People with this personality type embody the gifts of charisma and confidence, and project authority in a way that draws crowds together behind a common goal. However, Commanders are also characterized by an often ruthless level of rationality, using their drive, determination and sharp minds to achieve whatever end they’ve set for themselves. Perhaps it is best that they make up only three percent of the population, lest they overwhelm the more timid and sensitive personality types that make up much of the rest of the world – but we have Commanders to thank for many of the businesses and institutions we take for granted every day."

Who, What, Where, When, Why

Who, What, Where, When, Why and How. Standard writer's 101s shanghaied and cloaked as a personality profiling web test. I blew it off after reading the first page.

I guess I know myself by now. I shun people, technology as much as I can, obligations and expectations. I know man is suffering himself in all aspects of his existence and so much so he tells himself a god loves him and will one day reward him with something better than himself. I also know he's fully aware of the pretense of it and therein lies his suffering.

You know it all, but I don't. I really appreciated learning more about my self and you seem to want to make me feel bad about that. Am I right?
That's what I would've said but now that I read deeper into my personality traits I realize I do care too much what people think so judge away:)

The value of tests like these is not what they tell you but the way they make you look inside and think about yourself.

I would have put in different answers if I'd been doing this as part of an employment process, so I'm not sure what the value is.

The site didn't put the definitions in plain sight, so I posted their definition of Commander here. Apparently, we are only 3% of the (unspecified) population. A statistic that I'm skeptical of... yet open to if there's some data to back it of course.

The problem with tests such

The problem with tests such as these is on "any given day" we are all very different. Yes in some social groups I am a leader, in others, I am a negotiator. On any given day and in different environments we take on different personality types.
I am a very secure person but put me in a room with nothing but PhDs in chemistry and I shrink like a violet.

The biggest problem with such test is that they are bullshit. They are for ENTERTAINMENT purposes ONLY.

As mykcob4 said in his post just above, on one day in one situation, I can become the leader that gets the plan for getting everything done. On the very next day, in the same situation, I may instead become the follower that does what the leader suggests.

Additionally, if we were to discuss plate tectonics and continental drift on these boards, I may become the leader/teacher. However, switch the topic over to biogenetic engineering, and I am going to be the one who sits listening and taking notes.

INTP - I took the test as an undergraduate.

arakish@The biggest problem with such test is that they are bullshit. They are for ENTERTAINMENT purposes ONLY.

You are not quite right. The tests serve to point out the different ways human beings react to the environment around them. I actually did a research project on the Meyers Briggs Type Indicator as it relates to the production of a television commercial. The assignment was to choose a temperament type and then design a TV commercial that appealed to that temperament.

I took the assignment a step further. I designed a commercial and then wrote the essay about how each of the temperaments would see the commercial differently. How people make sense of the world is very important for therapists and health care professionals to understand. I personally have trained lawyers to use questions taken from personality profile quizzes to assist them in jury selection. Being able to alter your communication to enable to comprehension of the people you are addressing is an incredibly valuable skill.

Are the tests accurate - no. You are correct. They are just for fun. At the same time, the idea behind the tests is incredibly valuable. The NF personality tends to do extremely poor on these tests and will test out differently at different times. The test seems to be fairly reliable for other personality types, however people can X out by having equal scores in areas. This does not mean they are equal in personality traits or motivations. Certain things are just important to certain people.

People that are idea oriented tend to be NTs/
People that are reality based and value things, traditions and positions tend to be SJs.
People who are adrenaline junkies and seek action and activities tend to be SPs
People who strive to be authentic and caring,,, the ones who run about believing that everyone has a good nature, are generally NFs.

You will not get a personality profile from a single test. You will understand the differences in personality and what is important to people and how they operate in the world by listening to them and "Watching their Feet." When I was trained in the MMPI and Meyer's Briggs we were always told to "Watch their Feet." In other words, the tests can be wrong. Watch what people do. Once you understand the basics the tests present, it is easy to apply them to life and people around you. Knowing the basics can really facilitate communication.

Cognostic: "You are not quite

Cognostic: "You are not quite right. The tests serve to point out the different ways human beings react to the environment around them."

You could be correct. However, of the two I was forced to take, neither fit me. The biggest problem on both of those test is that practically all options fit for me, but we were only allowed to choose one option. And that is where I get the idea that those test are acutally bullshit and entertainment purposes only.

Now if they were to design those tests so a person can choose more than one option, then I might relent on the bullshit. But I'd still hold onto the entertainment purposes only part.

Actually, there was a third one I was supposed to take, some learning style test. The biggest problem with that one is that my learning style is ALL of the above. It is not just one particular style. It is ALL of them.

That is why I hate those tests. They are bullshit. Sorry, for the negativity, but...

Edit to add: Just took a look at that test. Again, it is bullshit. On just the first page of it, all of my answers are both Agree AND Disagree. That is my problem. For me there is no absolutes on that shit. It always depends upon the moment. The NOW! instant.

Spoken like a true NF, Do

Spoken like a true NF, Do you strive to be authentic? Is being honest and real at the top of your list of traits? I'm not sure which test you took but the Meyer's Brigg's temperament sorter has no less than six options for agreeing or disagreeing with each of its questions. https://www.16personalities.com/free-personality-test

The group that has the most difficulty with tests of this sort are the NFs.

I'm not in disagreement with the BS nature of the tests. Any moron who would give a test and assume it is 100% authoritative is a moron. Even the MMPI needs to be interpreted by a professional. IT has 338 true/false items. All these tests do is point in a direction. Scores may change should a person have a bad day or even a very good day. The point of the tests on line is certainly for entertainment or to recruit clients for therapists. That does not make them BS. The actual science behind the tests is very well established and extremely useful in many fields where people regularly deal with other people. Sales, Law, Education, Counseling. Medicine etc...

We are not really disagreeing about the tests. I'm just asserting that there is more to the science behind the tests than what you see when you take a test.

I went ahead and took it. 12

I went ahead and took it. 12 minutes my ass! It took me over 30. Too many of the questions were the middle dot and it took too long to finally say "Hell with it, middle dot". Now some were definitely agree/disagree, but were very few. Examples: You feel superior to other people. Hell no. Ain't no one superior to any other. Your mood can change very quickly. Hell yes. What do you think Adult ADHD and Complex PTSD does to a person?

Can't remember the exact wording, and ain't going searching again, but one asked about whether I consider other's feelings over whether fact would hurt them. My answer (however it was exactly worded) is just like that statement I have. I am like Christopher Hitchens and don't give a damn whether what I say is offensive or not; remember, only YOU can give a word, phrase, or sentence the power to offend YOU.

Some were obvious like that. And here is a good example of how almost all are either/neither: Your work style is closer to random energy spikes than to a methodical and organized approach. For this one, the answer is both.

Anyway, the very few questions I answered Agree/Disagree (like the two above) were enough to throw me into the INTPA category. In all, I would say there were maybe only 8 to 10 that I could answer Agree/Disagree. All others were the middle dot. As said, it all depends on the NOW! instant.

What is NF? Neutral Fuckhead? That would be apt for me. ;-)

Wow! Never heard all that

Wow! Never heard all that about others (including psychiatrists) thinking my feelings towards such test actually have some basis. But they are correct that a person can take the same test with different questions and you would get two different results. The Learning Style test was the most bogus.

https://www.webtools.ncsu.edu/learningstyles/

Finally found it. I feel this one is the hugest pile of bullshit. This is the one I was forced to take (twice) and could not because on literally every question, BOTH options fit me. I tend to learn best from every possible method.

I even contacted Dr. Felder about his test being bogus. He replied that no person is capable of learning from all styles at one. He said that no matter what, all people fall into one category only. No matter what I said, he would not believe that any person could be of all learning styles. This just told me was a closed-minded Religious Absolutist bigot.

Some questions do have one option such as the question that asks if you learn faster when doing the action rather than watching it being done or reading about it. However, this is true for every person. Reasons are simple. If you are watching someone else do it, you will pay attention only on the first time. The second time on, you are distracted and it just worse thereafter. Reading about it is the same. First time you pay attention. Afterwards, your attention just gets worse the more times you read it.

I've ranted enough...

I took a class on the

I took a class on the Learning Style stuff and did not buy it either. The question that got me in deep shit with the professor was the following.

"In any class there will be students at the top of a bell shaped curve and students at the bottom. The majority of students will be in the middle. This is simply a fact. So regardless of the method of education used or the specific learning style of the students wouldn't we just get the same bell shaped curve in any class?"

The professors response was woefully insufficient and the audience knew it. There will be students good at learning and poor at learning in every class. The learning style will not change that.
