So at the suggestion of my therapist I'm going to be taking a break some social media and the internet at large, save for YouTube, Spotify, platforms I use for entertainment rather than research. I'm gonna shoot for a week, which is a long time for my obsessive brain but I think it's a good idea
Before I log off at the end of tonight I wanted to share some thoughts with everyone.
3 months ago, I was fairly sure Christianity had the marks of a man made religion , and yet the modern miracles of Lourdes, the miraculous medal, Beaxraign , Fatima, etc, kept me ensnared . I thought that this was evidence to balance out the doubts. How, I'm looking at these claims and I feel myself saying, sure, but I still don't believe a godman Jesus came to earth, died and ressurected. Not when dying and rising God's were already popular among Mediterranean pagans. Not when Christianity looks exactly like local mystery cults. Not when no aspect of Jesus his life appears for 40 years. Not when Mary isn't even mentioned for another 10. And if all the story is metaphysical, why believe he is the only god and not one among many? The exclusion makes no sense.
I was obsessed with how progressive Catholics pretend to be, allowed to believe in evolution . But they still have to believe in Adam and Eve, which is impossible. I don't believe in sin, I don't believe we fell.
And on such allegory; why would god speak to us in allegory? In ccd, my teachers told me these stories were told to explain the world to us in a way we understood. Bullshit. Why couldn't god tell the truth? The universe emerged from a fiery explosion, and through billions of years the expanse of space evolved.the earth was hot, and slowly, life formed, first from the waters, then the land, and the air. Shit man, the big bang and evolution sound like mythology, and it's real. If God exists why couldn't he spell out the start of the world in such a way as to astound scientists at how accurate it is?!
Idk y'all. I can't explain everything but why should I be expected to explain what happened half a world away, a hundred years ago, to people I never met, with evidence selected and presented to me by a biased source?
It's fucking stupid.
So I'm taking a break. I'm gonna work on my art, read some fiction, watch some bad reality TV. I'll be around for today, then gone for 7.

Only recommendation I have is, trade out youtube, for hulu. They have a free option, and you can get the low "ad's" version for like 1-2 dollars a month, they also have free 7 day trials. If you already did the free trial on these things, you can always do em again on a different credit card. (Just set a reminder in your phone to cancel the plan after 6 days.) You can massively binge watch reality tv shows on hulu. Just know reality tv shows... are not really reality. They are typically highly edited and choreographed, just remember you will not learn anything useful from them at all. Purely just entertainment value.
Youtube is probably one of the greatest sources of ....unevidenced crap that is available. Remember anyone can post to youtube and say whatever they want. There is nothing that checks how true or untrue anything posted to youtube is.
Yeah no worries on that, I don't really use YouTube for research shit, I watch more vlogs and reviews and other mindless stuff. Also watch a lot of art and drawing channels. Thanks for the heads up tho!
