Can the Human mind, live without delusion??

Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, Secular Humanist, Atheist, I am this and I am that. You are not in my group. I am a teacher and he is a scientist, we are the things we believe in and the things we do. How often do we spend simply being human? Is there such a thing as just being human.

I know many atheists actually understand the position. At the same time many adopt atheism as some sort of belief system Especially those that talk about converting to atheism from religion. They do not know how to be in the world without belief in something. Can the mind, can our minds, function free of all these delusions? What say you?

Perhaps you should talk with

Perhaps you should talk with programminggodjordon about nonbeliefism.

We all believe in something.

We all believe in something. It does depend on how you define belief however.

If you truly believed nothing, the moment that actually became true, you would waste away wherever you are, dying of thirst in a pile of your own bodily waste. Sooner if where ever that occured, that happened in an unsheltered place. Fortunately our basic needs and reptilian brain would kick in and we would go get water eventually. And then you would believe on some level that you are thirsty. And I would say nearly all of us would be interested, (believe,) in not sitting/lying in our own body waste as it would be highly uncomfortable.

"as some sort of belief

"as some sort of belief system"

remember what the theist responded to my question on the other topic?..she shared the apostles creed..as an answer to my question.
see how delusional it is to serve the apostle creed as an answer to my question??..simply belief for them is really a big deal...

"you don't have to question..just believe...believe...and you'll be save..."

from what??oh yeahh..the delusion of hell....there you have it

I don't think the question

I don't think the question can be meaningfully answered. You'd have to be omnipotent to know that a person has no delusions. I suppose a braindead could be said to have no delusions, but I don't consider that a meaningful answer.

I just think it is an

I just think it is an interesting question. Are we or are we not our beliefs. Under extreme circumstances people drop their delusional beliefs all the time. Christians turn to cannibals. (Well, admittedly they do practice ancient cannibalistic rituals - but you know what I mean.) Our prisons are full of Christians who use drugs, steal and murder. On the other side there are Atheist death bed conversions and the idea of no atheists in fox holes. (Okay, we know that most of those assertions are not true but it can not be denied that it has never happened. ) Is it going too far to assert the world around us is delusion? Perhaps I a borrowing from the Buddhists or the Hindus. Yet they will assert this idea of delusion and then make up an entire religious philosophy and pretend it is real. What is an absence of delusion? Can we attain it? Would we want to attain it?
