You only validate the post by replying with intelligent conversation, something it is void of and should be left to remain that way.

We do it for pedagogical reasons. So that newcomers become aware that we subject bullshit to the discoursive bombardment it deserves, in order to stop it becoming an infectious pestilence.

Because many people, the vast majority, I suspect, are "lurkers". i.e Those interested in the discussions but unwilling to commit to a written response. Many are "undecided" or "lukewarm" theists who watch the arguments to and fro as it mirrors their internal struggles and indecision. I am told that these forums help the struggling with their 'apostasy' , and those who were searching for reasons to leave their faith feel less alone in their dilemma, even though they are not 'active' members of the discussion.

Regarding this poster in particular "Pistos", well, they just vomited forth the tired old shit that every christian theist has been subject to since they were old enough to reason. By dismantling its core arguments and shredding its bullshit into a manageable compost it teaches those 'lurkers' that they, in turn, can reason, and, use those arguments for themselves and within themselves. Often, that is all they need.

NAILED IT!

I told my sister and her husband to come here and read the posts and arguments. Unfortunately, as my sister put it, "I ain't smart enough to join in on these discussions. But what others have said has definitely helped me to understand my atheism. Thanks."

Of course, me sister may no longer lurk here, but it did help her. Thus yes, we have good reasons, just no evidence, that our continuing to belittle these preposterous posts does do some good. I have the evidence. Of course, all I can offer is my hearsay about how it did help my sister. She even said I and Tin-Man were her favorites. I am the mean-ass Pit Bull that will rip an arm off while Tin-Man will make them look so stupid yet do it with laughter. She has commented on others, but I will have to look them up in my email folder "savers."

I even told her she was not being intelligent choosing me as her favorite militant atheist. Her reply, "Well, it's your own damn fault." To which I had no reply.

Soo... Yes. There is good logical reasons to continue disparaging the posts.

I give you 1000 guesses on what she said. You'll only need one.

"It's your own damn fault! And, you're welcome. You and my brother are opposites. He's the sorry shit that will rip your head off and shit down the hole. You make people laugh. Sorry I don't come around anymore. But when I did, it helped."

See. She likes you better than me. Me, she calls a sorry shit, but not you. Nooo! LOL

LMAO.... Hey, if it makes you feel any better, you can tell your sister she sees only the whimsical cuddly teddy bear side of me on here. There does happen to be another side of me she would probably not like at all. Thankfully, that is a side that I very rarely have to show anymore since retiring... *chuckle*... Besides, I'm willing to bet she meant "sorry shit" in a good way. After all, what is wrong with ripping off heads and shitting down the holes?... LOL...

Thanks for that laugh. You have definitely reciprocated. Thanks.

@Kat Re: "Why do you bother?"

Yo, Kat! How's it hangin'? Dang it, I saw this earlier this morning but was unable to post at the time. Now it looks like everybody else has pretty much beat me to it. Therefore, I suppose I will just have to repeat what has already been said, but in my own manner. Basically, for me, it is a couple of reasons. First, in my own humble opinion, if we were to allow such nonsense go unchecked, then it would give the impression it is totally acceptable to continue to post such garbage. Simple way of putting it, but you get the idea. And second (for me, at least), it can be much fun and entertaining to shred some of the nincompoops that poke their noses in where they do not belong.... *snicker*... Pretty much along the same lines as Cog, I do not watch television. Have no need for it. I pretty much use this site to fill in whatever down-time I get during the day. Far more interesting, and vastly more educational. And, besides, playing with our goofy drive-by theists affords me the opportunity to keep my butter knife honed to a semi-fine edge... *chuckle*... (My wife still won't let me play with sharp objects... *hanging head in shame*...)

You know what they say: Better to be pissed off than pissed on.... (Unless you paid good money to be pissed on, in which case it is better to be pissed on. Otherwise, you will be pissed off for NOT being pissed on.)

Pure entertainment for me. I do this instead of watching TV. My entertainment is looking up shit people assert to be true. Writing about the things I discover. Exploring new things (Not just here - I am a fan of theoretical physics and Sociological practices that border on the bizarre. *That usually leads me back to religion.* This world is an amazing place and the many ways human beings have found to make sense of it is astounding. It's more interesting than most TV programs or movies anyway. So whether anyone reads anything I post or not.... It is all serves my curiosity and it's entertainment to me.

Fan of theoretical physics huh? Me too. All Carl Sagan's fault. Then later Neil deGrasse Tyson. And I am the same on whether anyone reads my posts or not. Television/CATV has nothing on the entertainment that can be found here sometimes.

Neil deGrasse Tyson, Lawrence

Neil deGrasse Tyson, Lawrence Krauss, Brian Cox are among my favorites. I do listen to Kaku but he often gets into WooWoo bullshit and so I don't prefer him. I have to erase the WooWoo to get at the fundamentals.

This is an interesting lecture: Neil Turok Public Lecture: The Astonishing Simplicity of Everything YouTube

Yeah. Even I have to admit Kaku is nothing more than a Woo Woo pusher. He has some interesting ideas for sci-fi novels, but that is about it.

I have posted on various forums for years and it has given me the opportunity to explore the religious fairy tales from a variety of views. My opinion is that Christians are especially clueless about their favorite ethnocentric Middle Eastern Jewish religious fairy tale. I never did like it and now I know why.

Actually I love Daniel Dennett. He's cool. I watch as much of him as I can get on TED/TEDx channels on my computer/PADD/phone. Would love to have had him as a professor.

I love Brian Cox. His enthusiasm for knowledge is infectious.

I've always been an animal lover and grew up on a diet of David Attenborough documentaries going right back to his first major series ‘Life on Earth’ in 1979. Watching him taught me so much about life on our planet and how the planet works. That’s expanded out to include anything do with natural science. I’m not an academic in natural science but it’s something that fascinates me and I love learning about.

Then one day I realised. There was one thing missing?

Having watched countless numbers of documentaries by Attenborough the one thing I have never ever seen is the scene where he turns over a rock and finds written underneath it ‘Made by god’. It just affirmed for me that religion has had thousands of years to come up with one single piece of compelling, credible evidence to back up their god theory and they’ve come up with absolutely f - all.

I’ve never been a believer but the more I think about it the more I realise just how much harm religion causes all over the world. It really pisses me off the way religion denies true education and knowledge to children and warps their minds with religious bullshit. When you think that religion held back science for centuries so that when plagues swept the globe millions of people died because they had no medicines to fight them with.

Give me knowledge any day over made up god shit.

I have in my collection a copy of Hofstadter & Dennett's The Mind's I. Which is a collection of interesting reflections on the workings of brains. My favourite part of that collection is the reproduction of Non Serviam by Stanislav Lem. Anyone who reads it will quickly learn why. Apart from it dovetailing with my software developer side, it has some fun implications, despite being fiction, for some of the usual suspects among extant mythologies. If you haven't encountered that particular short story, read and enjoy.
