I googled my way into atheism. In Google we trust.

My atheist mother allowed her very christian mother to send me a bible when I was ~11 (I was reading at a college level by then) but wisely did not explain what it was to me. I read it like any other fictional book I read back then. It was definitely more violent than I was used to and a slog to read through at times with all the old timey lyrical wording. And then when I started talking about how stupid the book was to my parents, (thinking it was fiction still), my mom just sat back and smiled. Then in my later years, already thinking religion/bible is bullocks I set about actually finding evidence that religion is BS. And boy did I find that evidence.. EVERYWHERE. I am actually shocked I was oblivious to all the extreme examples of how obviously made up and ridiculous the various religion ideas are even when I already knew it was all human created shit.

I was lucky to grow up with

I was lucky to grow up with no indoctrination at all and easily pieced it together as I got older.

The God hypothesis is no more real then santa or the Easter bunny.

Unfortunately though it is the theists favourite toy, as the late and great Christopher Hitchens would say.

It is a powerfully effective and well refined con that is an excellent method of control, power and wealth. Only now as education, literacy and freedom of fast, free and uncensored speech becomes widely available and practiced, is this kind of con is finally meeting its match, beyond the millenia old: one god lie con competing against another god lie con.

Unfortunately the sheer unadulterated level of bollocks that's been spread has been engrained within the fabric of society and from it I fear humanity will never escape from.

We no have to deal with the usual horseshit I'm the guise of arguments of incredulity, ignorance and the ever handy god of the gaps card too.

Yeah I too fear we will never fully free ourselves from religion, even with all the advancements in literacy, the internet, printing press, freedom of speech etc. I do hope a bit like the various old god ideas, and religious stuff that is mostly gone now, much of the rest will follow. A bit like yes there are still people that believe in witchcraft, but their numbers are few and they are mostly ridiculed by the strong majority of society as "crazy." We certainly do not see laws being made with with witchcraft in mind.

Especially if society ever goes into decline, I fear religion will come roaring back in and take advantage of all the now suddenly much larger highly vulnerable % people that would occur in widespread economic/cultural decline.

If me and my family worked from sunup to sundown everyday scratching out a subsistence living on a farm mostly worked by hand, we would be far to tired and uneducated to ever be able to easily see the crap the religious leader sitting reading books and perfecting his speech all day from a guide on speeches would be able to fairly easily pull one over on us, utilizing the "yeah life may suck, but if you listen to me and follow my rules, good things will happen to you in this life and the next."
