on modern medium

I thought of something recently, i am not talking about celebrities that claims to be mediums but family members, friends, colleagues. Often, they claim that they can communicate with deceased people or otherwise supernatural entities. Most of the times, these beings take on matters of family disputes and jobs, or if you will get these promotion etc... They never warn us about natural catastrophes, pandemic outbreaks or terrorists attacks.

I find this suspicious.

LOL: Suspicious???

LOL: Suspicious??? Barking mad is more like it. I rip on my family members for praying. I don't know any people like this. Frankly, they would not be very comfortable around me.

Yes, I am sugarcoating a lot of my thoughts... But such a person appears to be my Mother and while i am definitely quitting her home next Monday to come back to metropolitan France, i don't want to further damage our strenuous relationship.

@Talyyn: Doesn't it suck

@Talyyn: Doesn't it suck that we do not get to choose our families. I left mine when I was 16. The last time I spoke with my mom, I was in my 20s. The year I came to Korea, I spoke with my dad on the phone, 22 years ago. Drug addicts, alcoholics, a brother and sister in and out of prison, check fraud, B and E, kidnapping. And here I am traveling the world, working in universities and living a life completely free of my past. We do get to choose our own lives.

Wow! You did get your lot in life! The good is that you got better and happy. Yes it suck but at least in a few days i will be free of that.

Mediums are charlatans and

Mediums are charlatans and the people who believe them are gullible and desperate for ANY answers.

@David

Of course it is what I think. When one such person say she/he is a true medium, i want to tell them: "All mediums that were investigated were charlatans, how are you any different?

Cognostic's picture
@Talyyn: Just as you get to

@Talyyn: Just as you get to choose your life, others get to choose theirs. There is nothing wrong with expressing your opinion or even taking some action but in the end, whatever the end result, you must live with it and yourself. Take care of yourself first and then you will always have the energy to deal with others.

The worst are those that take

The worst are those that take money for the service of mystically locating a missing person and describe in some detail how/when they were murdered, or if they are still living. This is just preying on the emotionally distraught. I saw a funny clip of a reporter who showed one of these women an image of a little girl who "went missing" years ago. The medium then went on to say "she was brutally murdered after being sexually assaulted." The reporter then confronted her with the fact that the image of the little girl was herself and she was very much alive! The women walked out in the middle of the interview. FRAUD!

I have an aunt that claims to have mediumistic gifts (whatever it means). She said she spoke with her father, which passed away 20+ years ago, and he said everything was fine in heaven and that he was working as a tractor driver. What a useful information, huh?

It's all a load of old

It's all a load of old bollocks if you ask me.

That's right up there with those who claim to have been abducted by aliens.

You wouldn't trust them with a potato gun.

Or BB gun for American comrades.

Frankly, no, as Old Man says, there is no evidence that it works. It just that i find their scope of prediction about petty family issues convenient.

In Spirit's picture
@Talyyn

@Talyyn

I totally agree with your view on this issue. As you know I have made claims previously to being a highly intuitive/medium and yet I still will recommend that you don't believe what you hear. It is true that most claims are petty and life can go on normal as usual without those claims. Unless you hear something invaluable, that you could not have obtained through any other means do not give it any credence. Also, unless I myself am useful to you in such a way that is undeniable, do not give credence to me. It would serve no purpose. I have no need to preach this 'religion' nor to have any one follow it.

Unless you predict that an asteroid will pass by the Earth at Monday, July 01 2019. This asteroid being of roughly 300 meters of diameter, at a particular angle and velocity, and that we do not detect it until it flies right above our heads. That counts?

In Spirit's picture
@Talyyn

@Talyyn

IMO your scenario if predicted exactly as you mentioned would not prove that what I claim to have is true. It would only be the start to give some potentially possible credence and to be willing to hear more predictions. Even I would not accept 1 perfect prediction as proof of special abilities..... But the example you gave is one that would have to be followed up by many more similar ones...and IMO one miss and goodbye

toto974's picture
@In Spirit,

@In Spirit,

I agree with you that it would just mean that we have to investigate much more. However, I don't think that one miss invalidate it, since with a sufficient sample, you can use statistics and probability.

In Spirit's picture
@Talyyn

@Talyyn

I am much stricter than you are on these claims. I personally would not believe anyone with one miss.

If I could find one medium

If I could find one medium that could predict events at highly consistent 51% accuracy or greater degree, I could easily make both the medium and myself multi billionaires. The higher up on accuracy (say 60%, 70% etc) would only speed up the process.

Seriously one medium that could predict useful information above 66% accuracy that everyone else does not have access to, and me and this "medium" could actually rather easily rule the entire world, money would actually be meaningless in that scenario fairly quickly to this medium and me, anything we wanted that humans were capable of fulfilling we could have with such power.

@ Talyyn and In Spirit

There has not been one scientifically observed and corroborated instance of accurate fortune telling beyond that dictated by chance.

There has never been anyone found to 'communicate with the dead', only shysters and frauds will tell you otherwise, or of course, those tricked by them.

In Spirit you presented yourself as a "medium/psychic" in previous posts and yet failed to evidence one single instance of your accuracy or indeed any prediction.

Why should we believe you or give any credence to your post?

"Why should we believe you or give any credence to your post?"

Until I or any medium/psychic can tell you something that will raise both your eyebrows to the point that credence is given a possibility, I suggest you don't. I have no need to preach to anyone to believe in these things. It is not necessary to believe in this.

Maybe I will start a new OP in reference to evidence and how it should be obtained.

Maybe I will start a new OP in reference to evidence and how it should be obtained.

Oh I think there are enough definitions of "evidence" out there, and enough methodologies for anyone to realise that psychic and mediumship are a crock of shite.
So if you want to start a new thread on your evidence of "psychic abilities" be well aware that revelation does not count, uncorroborated witness testimony does not count, however many separate accounts there are.

In the psychic field there are many lab tests, all of which, every 'psychic/medium' has spectacularly failed.

Take a properly constituted test and you have evidence......or, as is most likely you can come out and stop fooling yourself.

In all due respect to Talyyn, I will reserve my rebuttal in a new OP. I don't want to hijack this OP unless Talyyn okays it.

@ In Spirit

@ In Spirit

Oh, I am sure Talyyn wont make any objections to you taking any tests under strictly controlled lab conditions....In fact I am pretty sure she would welcome it.

So cut to the chase when and where will you back up your claims under controlled lab conditions? Stream it live.......

My money is on your response of:
It doesn't work like that or
That is not a fair test when I have so many 'testimonials'
I can't afford the time
I don't control my 'gift' it controls me

And any other BS that comes to mind to avoid taking a well tried test on your claims.

Beats me why you charlatans bother, it is easy enough to go to a research centre and be examined....that is why we do not believe you. Not one supposed self claimed 'psychics' have achieved anything except notoriety, not one has exhibited any claimed ability beyond the norm when tested.

Solution is in your hands.

Writing a rebuttal for me is not fair game so here is my challenge to you. I will message you my rebuttal and it will be private between you and I. You can go ahead and post it yourself if you wish. After what you wrote I will not disrespect this forum. You have no idea what my rebuttal is about. I have no desire to disrespect atheists nor to convince them of anything. Take it or leave it.

@ In Spirit

As far as I know there is no barrier to you sending me a PM...but why? If you genuinely possess these claimed abilities...provide the evidence in open forum.
Atheists in general (I am not a spokesman) seem to accept evidence if it is presented....you never know they all might send you dollars!

I can think of a way to do a test publicly (on the forums), if anyone is interested. But in my experience (and I do have some limited experience with this), they almost always decline.
