polemics against the christian GOD

What do atheist and other believers find wrong with the christian god jesus and on whole christianity not necessarily what happened in the past but currently. What have you observed in others?

@Devout Christian: "What do

@Devout Christian: "What do atheist and other believer"

Atheists are non-believers.

"find wrong with the christian god jesus "

Right down to modern times, the various Christian sects have plagued the world with their disputes and wars about their differing interpretations of the Jesus myth. Because they've also lied, cheated, and intimidated their way into positions of influence in national governments, their petty squabbles have often escalated into wars. By creating Christianity, Jesus put a weapon of mass destruction into the world.

At the same time, Christianity has been a constant barrier to scientific progress. I reckon we've lost centuries in fields like medicine and physics because of Christian dogma against new ideas and knowledge. That's still going on. Did Jesus ever tell us to use our wonderful brains to solve problems? No he just told us to live for today like the lilies of the field and the birds of the air.

As @Algebe said, Christianity

As @Algebe so well explained, Christianity, and religions, in general, are mainly bad for Humanity as a whole.

And about the character Jesus.... The idea of this hippy communist guy who loves us all is not bad itself, and that's why most of his features were copied from older Mediterranean mythological and popular characters; that his father sacrificed him when supposedly he had done nothing wrong is a bit disgusting... But ancient myths are usually disgusting, anyways. Zeus or Thor weren't depicted as innocent fairies either.

There's nothing worse about Jesus than it could be about Hamlet or the Grinch, except for the difference in number of followers. Maybe the word is not "wrong", but "sad" to describe what I feel when I think some people change their lives according to fictional characters and stories.

No archeological evidence

No archeological evidence exists to support the jesus character as having ever lived. It starts and ends there as far as this discussion is concerned about that character.

The christianity thing is the result of a body politic settlement. There was disagreement about how the whole jesus/god/trinity thing that was seeded 300+ years before the spark of a bible was ever begun in the ranks of the the bishops and presbyters of the new religion forming out of the cult of the Nazarene. It's settlement was between those bishops and presbyters, and Emperor Constantine, who needed the nazarene cult to get their stories straight about the cast of characters being passed around in diaspora. There were conflicting accounts of the jesus character, the story surrounding him as a real man or just a docetic spirit as promoted by Paul (nee Saul) 300 years before and still a popular notion. Then there was the problem of Nazareth. No one new where it was.

Emperor Constantine could not make the arguing sides find compromise so by edict he told the bishops and presbyters that the jesus character would be a real man as well as of the same godly substance as the father character. No one understood what the "substance" thing was but the bishops had their orders to move forward with a compulsory dogma that was to be convincing to the average man. Constantine dictated this to the bishops and told them that what he said that day was to be recorded as the word of god. This whole treatise was recorded at Nicea at Constantine's summer home on the Turkish coast. This was the first Council of Nicea and the results were titled the Nicean Creed (of 325). This was the kick-off of the christian religion. It was by an emperor's political edict that jesus and the god characters were foisted upon the world by law, and up to the architects of the religion of the time to write a believable story about it.

On the subject of Nazareth, Mark messed up and recorded the jesus character as a man from Nazareth. Crap, he was writing blind. If he was all hellsfire and brimstone sure of himself he'd have known, as Paul did, that the jesus character was from a cult named The Nazarene and not a town called Nazareth. Constantine, always in damage control over the forming of the new religion, had his mother find a suitable little town somewhere in the region the stories told about and rename it Nazareth. She did as he wished and then returned with some artifacts from the town, happily provided by the opportunistic townsfolk for a fee, and she returned to Constantine's court with them to seed some new churches on the planning board.

All of the above is documented in the court records of Constantine. The bishops, knowing this to be true, sent agents to find the documents after Constantine's death and destroy them. This supposedly was the reason the great library of Alexandria was burned down and the person responsible, Pope Theodophilus of Alexandria, was beatified.

So, atheism is not just a matter of kicking theism in the butt for fun. Atheism is a matter of education and the knowledge it brings for logical judgements and decisions.

Yeah, @devout, indeed.

Yeah, @devout, indeed. Indoctrination of little children is a powerful tool to ensure believers.

P.S. Whatever you are told to be truth when you are pretty young seems perfectly normal... Remember how you felt about Santa or the Tooth Fairy... Do you think that if adults around you had believed Santa was in fact real, your friends, media, you would have come to the conclussion eventually that he wasn't on your own? Don't you?

@Devout Christian: "Jesus has

@Devout Christian: "Jesus has quite a number of followers."

Christianity has long been used by governments to keep their people docile with promises of justice and happiness after death. In turn, governments have allowed the churches to indoctrinate children in schools. That's why Christianity has such a big following. Childhood indoctrination is hard to shake off.

Christianity also had the good fortune to be the religion of some of the biggest empires in history--the Romans, the Spanish, the French, and the British. Christianity is the religion of muskets and gunboats. "Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition."

Napoleon really understood the role of religion. "Religion is what keeps the poor from murdering the rich." "Religion is excellent stuff for keeping common people quiet."

Can you prove your god or jesus is real? Christianity is a blood thirsty religion, it has the blood of innocents on it's hands.

The character and story of the jesus figure has many devout adherents, such as yourself, but that does not diminish the fact that no public records of births and deaths, or other public records, contain evidence that a character of that name and life ever existed. The religious memes of reinforcement, conscription and fear mongering can make believers out of a lot of people. Whether they really believe or are just taking the safer position is unknown. Regarding evidence of existence, the same holds for all the named characters in the bible that were not otherwise known real Roman public figures such as our good buddy Pontius Pilate. There was no Mary, Joseph, Mark, Peter, Noah, Moses, Abraham, etc., etc.

There are many stories and myths extant about parallels that the bible pirated or appropriated to fill out the texts the bishops were writing, but that was a known plagiarism at the time and it had many objectors to it's borrowing. One of the greatest bible swipes of the time was the creation story from the mythical story in The Epic of Gilgamesh. The book of Genesis was modeled from it. The Gilgamesh epic spawned many other ideas still familiar to us. One of them was the fountain of youth, which our buddy and explorer Juan Ponce de Leon went in search of. But, he failed and instead of longevity in his life he died a young man of 47. I suppose that was considered an old man in the time before advanced medicines and proper nutrition.

So, no, the pages of the bible were nothing more than what contributing writers made of them. Theological and secular scholars agree that in terms of parchments found that contributed to the bible, some 150+ different writing styles are known to exit. Moreover, the works of Mark, for example, embody no known work traceable to a real character with the name Mark. Yet, there are many different styles contributed under Mark as a pen name. This carries through the whole of the work known as the bible and is defined as pseudepigrapha, or writers using pseudonyms. The scholars do agree that the writings of Paul and some by John appear to be genuine.

Again, atheism is no passing fancy just to be different, or a battlecry for rebels without a cause. It's real. It's based on reality and that reality is fact-funded by the hard truths recorded into man's archeological time line.
