you could be in a computer simulation as part of some futuristic science experiment. In this case your parents and everyone else is an illusion. Yet a creator must still exist for the science experiment to exist.
People commit these acts not God. Typically, ignorant people with low moral standards.
sourcecodemigraine: "you could be in a computer simulation as part of some futuristic science experiment."
If that is so, then why are you so damned worried about us and what we think?
rmfr
Do I seem worried?
And do you think?
sourcecodewizard,
"People commit these acts not God. Typically, ignorant people with low moral standards."
The Jesus character was always flapping his jaws about how people should sell their possessions and give the money to the poor. But when Jesus had the opportunity to sell the expensive perfume that he liked to douse himself with he refused to do so.
Was Jesus displaying high or low moral standards in that instance?
@Sourcecodewizard: To anyone using logic it is clear that our reality must have been designed.
I challenge you to demonstrate some of that logic.
Consider the human body. It's full of design flaws and redundant vestigial parts. Why do you have a cerebellum? Why is there a blind spot in the middle of both your eyes, and why do your eyes produce upside-down images that have to be corrected by your brain? Does the human body look like something designed from scratch by an intelligent designer?
Look at the history of life on this planet. Over 99% of all species that ever existed are extinct. That's monumentally wasteful and cruel. Imagine what would happen to designers in a manufacturing company if 99.99% of their creations failed.
Your illusion of design is the product of random forces and processes operating in an almost infinite number of locations over billions of years.
All cars are also filled with design flaws, so according to you, they were not designed. Nonsense.
You presume knowledge, trust what you see for yourself.
@Sourcecodewizard: All cars are also filled with design flaws
That's why we never claim that they were designed by immortal, omniscient, omnipotent sky fairies.
yet everyone agrees they were designed proving the error in your original argument.
Logic people....please
@sourcecodewizard
You are making a fundamental error Equivocation Fallacy. You are using the word designed to mean "naturally occurring." We know of many things designed because we design them. We know things are designed because we compare them to things that naturally occur. A snowflake has all the elements of a complex design but we know it occurs naturally just like all other crystals on the planet.
Most things we are aware of have the appearance of design, it does not follow they were designed. If you think things are designed, you must point out the designer and prove he/she designed what you said he or she designed.
We have perfectly natural explanations for naturally occurring events. We have perfectly natural examples of things that are designed. If you want to assert natural events are designed, you must offer some sort of evidence to the fact. You don't just get to insert your god as a cause.
I see he conveniently skipped responding to you. Can we fling poo at him yet?
Not yet. Allow him to dig a deep hole first so he can't easily escape once the poo throwing begins.
Proof by contradiction: re-read the SETI argument from the OP.
"All cars are also filled with design flaws, so according to you, they were not designed. Nonsense."
Humans who design cars don't possess limitless knowledge and power, as theists claim their imaginary deities do. Hence the comparison is idiotic.
No one is claiming human designers are perfect, so flaws are to be expected.
Wow, he skipped responding to you as well Sheldon...twice...huh, shocking.
Sadly this type of evasion is all too common from many of the theists who come here.
What does it say about their beliefs and ability to cope with cognitive dissonance that they can maintain that belief only through intellectual dishonesty, by evasion of what we must assume are criticisms they have no credible answers for.
As social intimidation is a tactic from the "science" crowd.
Lacking basic reasoning and evidence you see how they band together in groups as if that makes their reasoning any stronger.
You still have not offered a counterargument.
I lost track...to what point.
"band together in groups as if that makes their reasoning any stronger."
Hahahhahhahahhahahha, uh, oh damn it, irony overload.
I am by myself in a forum full of hostiles, how is that ironic.
Oh I get it---self irony. nice.
@ sourcecodemigraine
Yet, you are the one who came here into this "pit of hostiles" as you call it. Intelligence, indeed.
rmfr
I do this instead of church. I do think many people who consider themselves Christians do not at all behave the way Jesus talk. They do a lot of things for show just like He accused the Pharasees. At least people here have a shot.
sourcecodewizard,
"I am by myself in a forum full of hostiles, how is that ironic."
You are being given an excellent opportunity to demonstrate how well you can think and respond to a variety of questions. If you were sure of yourself and knowledable about the subject matter you would be able to respond to all of the questions. It may take you a few more years to get the knack of it but keep working on it.
You should thank everyone for being interested in your personal development.
wow. you sound like how I think when I'm totally stoned....I think....wait what?
Like a good christian, he is dishonest.
I never claimed to be good.
Nor even Christian, I am just a wanna be.
I used to view the world like many of you.
Then I proved to myself without doubt that our reality must have been designed.
I still thought that religion was total nonsense.
Then I had an experience that can only be described as being "born again".
Now I am a "wanna be".
I do this instead of going to church because I still see so much hypocrisy.
I think the world is filled with the "left behinders" but they are going to take the lid off the thing soon and a lot of people are going to doo doo inside their inner drawers, while some of us are (hopefully) cheering.
Think giant video game where they record everything. Every pain or pleasure. Every thought and emotion.
When it's over we get to be part of rebuilding the whole thing. Some of us.
Sadly sourcecodewizard, you are exhibiting almost all of the characteristics of a good christian.
In this post you displayed divisiveness ("some of us"), being unhappy with your present life and eagerly anticipating the (hopeful) afterlife, and arrogance.
And of course, your propositions are so full of holes an analogy is too easy.
sourcecodemigraine: "Then I proved to myself without doubt that our reality must have been designed."
OBJECTIVE HARD EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE.
Onus probandi incumbit ei qui dicit non ei qui negat.
rmfr
Computer in your head.
Computer cannot build self.
Objective, hard, empirical evidence in 8 words.
As opposed to all the word salads trying to explain how science fantasy conjecture really counts anyway.
The OP shows that
1) a standard exists to deduce intelligence
2) a simple flickering light can be constructed to meet this standard
3) humans greatly exceed this standard
Very simple yet no one has an counter argument.
Perhaps because there is no counter argument and that's why there is so much poo throwing instead.
