Under Trump, America's religious right is rewriting its code of ethics

For a quiet chuckle, I recommend the following in the Guardian:

“Under Trump, America's religious right is rewriting its code of ethics” by Randall Balmer

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/feb/18/donald-trump-evang...

I especially invite any theists (resident or drive by) to read it and then post a comment.

The world of "1984" is here.

The world of "1984" is here. These people are practicing pure doublethink. I can't imagine how exhausting it must be to have all these conflicting ideas about morality at the same time. Is that what makes them wave their hands in the air?

It all started when that

It all started when that Swaggart fellow blubbered for forgiveness on national TV . Broke the fundies heart to see a grown man cry like that. It softened their hearts and they are still giving that guy money.

I've repeated the story

I've repeated the story before, about how my friend voted for Trump because he was the clown with the biggest shoes. Slowly over the last year or so I've come to believe my friend was right. Making me even more of a cynic (kind of a scary thought). Hard to put into words, but I'll give an example:

Trump's statements about the recent mass shooting in Florida, where he blamed the victims. I don't think anyone who can tie their shoes is that stupid; I don't think Trump is that stupid. Which leads down some pretty dark paths, which I don't feel confident enough to discuss (I'll leave that to the reader's imagination).

He does make for quite the

He does make for quite the distraction and convenient robo signer as the more rank and file politicians continue their reverse robin hood process in the US.

Clown with the biggest shoes is fairly apt description. I think everyone was surprised when he actually won in November 2016 though (including tRump and the first lady themselves, it was reported by insiders Melania openly wept when it became apparently tRump won, and they were not tears of joy.)

I have my opinions on trump.

I have my opinions on trump. But as a Non US citizen I don't want to insult any of his voters who are members of this forum as I respect everyone as he may have policies that suit their lifestyle and jobs and whatnot.

I really don't think all the dozens of millions, maybe the hundred or so million voters (please correct me on the number. Not trying to sound arrogant) are all bigoted homophobic religious racist rednecks stuck in the olden times. My main reason for thinking that is because, Where were they all when a black man was voted in office twice.
Another reason is maybe a trump voter felt one or two policies would benefit their life and those policies weren't promised by other candidates so it doesn't mean they agreed with his more controversial ones.

I also wanna stress that the few hundred or few thousand bigoted racist white power far right religious trolls online don't represent the dozens of millions or hundred million or so trump voters as we all know, the most arrogant prickish people are louder than the good ones.

I have many trump supporting friends who don't agree with some of trumps policies or tweets lol but he had one or two policies that would help them that the other party didnt. And my friend's are far from bigoted as I would have ditched them if they were.

But to the OP you're right though. Trump has opened the closet door for these trolls who do not fear social media or the such. They are LOUD and very OPEN about their agendas against Athiests and other religions and other skin colours and nationalities.

It was one of the lowest

It was one of the lowest voter turnouts in US history. The question I'd be asking isn’t why people voted for Trump, but why so many are so disenchanted with American democracy that they didn't vote at all. The biggest group who didn't vote at all are working class people.

And then there's people who couldn't vote, because the state they live in fiddled with voter registration rules and disenfranchised them. Hundreds of thousands of them were disenfranchised, I heard.

Trump didn't create these problems, he's the end result and beneficiary of them.

Edited for additions.
