Why do atheists feel that there is no God?

electron,

I like your use of the word 'feel'. It avoids the difficult (for atheists) use of the word believe.

At certain times in my life I have felt that there is a God and at others that there isn't. I guess this is why I have settled as an Agnostic. These days I'm leaning towards the isn't feeling but Agnosticism comes first for me.

A really good thing IMHO is that I don't feel any better or different with the 'is' or the 'isn't'. I don't see the 'is' as any kind of advantage or comfort, and the same with the 'isn't'. Of course, there are some places in the world where religion is much more than an intellectual exercise and I guess some folks just need to be accepted by those in their community. Not everywhere is good for the free thinker.

Fortunately, we have this forum. (smiley here)

FUCK YOU ARE THICK HEADED. YOU DO NOT GET TO SETTLE FOR THE WORD AGNOSTIC.

At times in your life you are atheist and at other times you are theist. You are fucking ALWAYS AGNOSTIC!

ATHEIST: is about what you believe.
THEIST: is about what you believe.

AGNOSTIC: is about what you FUCKING KNOW!!!!!!!

EVERYTHING IS BELIEF! Even the shit you think you fucking KNOW. You have to BELIEVE it to think you KNOW it.

You either believe a god exists or you do not believe a god exists.

KNOWLEDGE IS NOT A PART OF THE EQUATION. Many theists believe in God with NO KNOWLEDGE AT ALL. (Most in fact.) Knowledge has nothing to do with believing or disbelieving until you wish to JUSTIFY YOUR NON-BELIEF OR BELIEF.

Why is it so difficult for you to grasp the fact that, for a rational mind, BELIEF is allocated to a proposition based on the amount of actual evidence supporting that proposition (Stuff We Call Knowledge).

What you are is CONFUSED, and your posts are idiotic.

Cog,

Cog,

I think you may be confusing knowledge and belief. This is understandable for those not versed in epistemology. If you are interested in the subject I would recommend a reading of Bertrand Russell, in particular the thought experiment of 'Russell's Chicken'. It is an amusing and eye opening piece on inductive logic.

Russel's Chicken addresses the problem of induction and the laws of nature.

There is no agreed upon solution to the problem of induction. WTF are you on about? All you are doing is waving about a Red Herring to avoid the FACT that you have your head up your butt when it comes to understanding Agnosticism, Atheism and Theism.

1. We have a chicken on a farm
2. The farmer shows up and the chicken gets fed.
3. An interesting fact that the chicken notes.
4. Next day, same thing happens.
5. Day after day, same thing happens
6. What will the chicken conclude?
A. There is a law of nature. Every time the farmer shows up I will get fed.
B. But a skeptical chicken would ask, "How do you know."
C. The non-skeptical chicken asserts it is obvious. All evidence points to this
7. Imagine the chicken's surprise when one day the farmer arrives and the chicken gets its head chopped off.

Now explain to me how in the fuck we are discussing laws of nature.
God exists or god does not exist. That is a fact.
You either believe a god exists or you do not believe a god exists. That is a fact.

Agnosticism (KNOWLEDGE) is not related to belief. One can have belief with no knowledge at all. In fact, most do. Agnostic atheists have no knowledge and do not believe. Agnostic Theists have no knowledge and do believe.

Why are you so stuck on this? Russel's Chicken is some idea you pulled out of your ass that has nothing what so ever to do with the discussion.

It was well done (snickering to myself)...

Just to answer the OP, it's

Just to answer the OP, it's because it's a crock of shit.

I mean really, some pan dimensional wizard poofs us all in to existence (despite knowing and having evidence that we evolved and our planet did too from an accretion disc.

What the fuck was he/she doing for billions of years before?

Why would a god come during an era of utterly cruel wankers? Why not now when we have technology to understand and for us all to see?

Not very smart is it?!

It's very simple really, there is fuck all evidence for god! Zero!

There is no evidence for the supernatural and never in the history of man kind has there been suspension of the laws of nature and physics that can be evidenced.

So again, its horse shit.

It means primitive effort to understand the world and to control the masses... absolute tosh.

Well, I tend to agree with you somewhat , but as a skeptic I try to avoid dogmatic claims. Day to day though, I live as if there is no supernatural realm, ranging from gods, angels and demons through mediums and other frauds to fairies at the bottom of my garden.

Reading our latest little friend I was put in mind of an ancient quote, by whom I don't remember. Something like :

"To the ordinary people , the gods are real, to the wise man foolish, to the ruler useful"

"Day to day though, I live as if there is no supernatural realm,"

I don't see how anyone can rationally do otherwise. The more people try to convince me that the supernatural is real, the more obviously irrational the belief becomes. Theology and religious apologetics are the most compelling reasons for atheism outside of the bible and koran.
