Last posted not updated

Taking two threads as examples from the Hub::
1...
Athiest Religion/Technological resurrection (Lists of Threads shows last poster was Pragmatic, 11th Apr when the last poster was me, ZeffD).
2...
My Dialog With A Muslim Extremist, (List of Threads shows JeffVL 9th Apr when the last poster was Chimp3).

It seems that the Forum doesn't correctly indicates when and who last posted on any given thread. This means that people have to keep checking which is time wasting and means the threads count far more "views" than should be required. I don't know if anything can be done to correct this.

It is possible that

It is possible that Pragmatic edited something.

Ah yes, should have thought

Ah yes, should have thought of that. Thanks Jeff.

Yes, quite possible. When

Yes, quite possible. When posting, I sometimes correct spelling errors and add info right afterwards. (I wouldn't mind having a preview-mode).
I have seen the last poster not actually being the last poster several times, and suspected that posts were edited.

On the opposite side, I have several times seen that the "Veiw X new" haven't been updated at all when I have read those posts. Refreshing the page several times and clicking on the link again, does not change the link "View X new".

Welcome ZeffD

Welcome ZeffD

@The Pragmatic

Could you explain that better please.

You mean clicking on "View X new" does not remove it afterwards?

ThePragmatic's picture
Sure.

Sure.

This isn't in any way a show stopper, it's a sporadic but irritating behavior of the forum functionality.

What I'm referring to is the link that appears in the listing of forum threads in the main forum page (or under Debate room / Atheist hub / Atheist Book Club / Site support) under the caption "Replies", ex: "View 2 new".

When I click that and get transferred to the first of those replies I haven't read yet, the site knows I have clicked that link. So if I go back to the main forum page a reload it, the link "View 2 new" that I clicked is now gone, as it should be since I just clicked the link a few minutes ago.

But sometimes, those links just refuse to disappear. If I then click the the same link once more, it transfers me to the last post of the entire thread, not the post that I hadn't read before.
Clicking the link again, refreshing the main forum page several times still doesn't remove those links. It's like the page.

Reading my reply back, I find

Reading my reply back, I find myself sounding like an anal-retentive nutcase that gets irritated by the smallest details. It's probably due to work related brain damage, since I work with web development. This kind of small errors in web pages irritates me.

On a note to the site

On a note to the site developers:
The edit functionality should still be restricted: Once somebody has posted a reply, the post should only be editable by adding to it, preferably with a time stamp.

Also, when posting a reply: If the post one is replying to has been edited, the user should instead get a notice that says: The post you are answering to has been edited, would you like to reload it before you reply? Yes / No.

Yea there are a lot of small

Yea there are a lot of small bugs on this forum that could be better in a lot of ways.

"View 2 new" should highlight both, not just pointing to the first one.

"But sometimes, those links just refuse to disappear."
About it not registering as clicked, try closing the browser and try again.
It might be an old cookie issue, so deleting your cookies might fix it too.

"This kind of small errors in web pages irritates me."
Me being a perfectionist when it comes to my work, I know the feeling.

"Once somebody has posted a reply, the post should only be editable by adding to it, preferably with a time stamp."
If you have a preview yes, how currently it is now, NOO!!!, I do a lot of spelling mistakes edits lol
(Sometimes I completely add new stuff which I think would make my point clearer)
But yea disabling edit for 2 hrs old post would also be nice.

"The post you are answering to has been edited, would you like to reload it before you reply? Yes / No."

yea that be f* awesome indeed.
