About the fan pics on the right side of this site. Cringe.

Hopefully there's no offense taken here - I hope this is taken more as an opinion that could help a little. The pictures on the right side of atheists holding up atheist signs in the style of the ole "white board/black marker." Am I the only one that looks at that and feels the cringe factor? Perhaps cool it with the signs. It's like the WBC of atheism without the hate of course but definitely with the cringe factor. It also kind of solidifies the stereotype of internet atheists who are the "m'lady," dark, emo types. Guys, it's a simple opinion, and I know it doesn't represent all of you, but I don't think it's a good look to play on.

*uses a normal browser to

*uses a normal browser to look at AR forums*

Woah. All those people are way better looking than me. Apparently atheist people are a fine looking bunch!

This site looks and feels very weird to me in a normal browser with the amount of time I spend here, it is very jarring change.

I use a mostly text only browser to block all ads, pictures, tracking, cookies, etc

I suppose most people are used to it on the internet, but the amount of "extra stuff" on the sides does seem a tad much. I see both google and facebook having their presence ready for that "hook in". Also see a couple useful links I have not noticed before hmm..

Okay that is enough of that, I will anonymously donate to AR again, and turn all the extras off for myself again :)

What cringe? I don't know,

What cringe? I don't know, but have you looked at some of those ladies in the pictures?

Cat-Call... Wolf-Whistle...

Many make me wish I was 40 years younger.

The signs are simple and home

The signs are simple and home made. Reminiscent of the "Jesus Saves" bullshit I see on the streets. In that regard, I agree. However, not everyone is an artist. In my opinion, I would like to see people posing in their AR shirts in public areas. If I had a few I could send poses from all over Asia. But I guess it is a site for joining AR and not Spreading AR.

Also, shirts with crap on the front of them are tacky. I have never owned a shirt with advertising splashed all over its front. I never will own one. A small logo over the pocket is okay. Splashed on the back is fine. Never on the front. So.... unfortunately, I will never own a shirt from AR/

I have no problem with member

I have no problem with member's photos. Of course they are not models and the presentation could be a lot slicker. But I like it this way, it's real people.

Keep it homespun, keep it real.

In a lot of countries

In a lot of countries declaring your atheism comes with the threat of a lot of personal and social hazards. I respect those who put their pics up on AR at all.
In my country, religion is just so unimportant declaring your atheism is a non-event, so I could flood the AR site with pics of me...but I am just so butt ugly I think using a cockatoo avatar a humane and charitable act.

That's actually an excellent

That's actually an excellent point, I missed it. This is an international site. People are posting picks from all over the world. Sometimes I just don't think about how dangerous it is to be an atheist for some.

Well I keep seeing ads for

Well I keep seeing ads for Franklin fucking Graham's crusade to Australia on the AR website.

I just hope that AR gets a little money every time Google or whoever sticks those ads in my browser.

Funny, I don't ever see any

Funny, I don't ever see any such ads. And that butthead son of an asshole is from where I used to live, North Carolina.

See? Its not even safe for

See? Its not even safe for Algebe who only displays that attractive flower motif and yet he is personally singled out and hounded by the Franklin Graham group. Is the Graham circus back in Oz? I haven't seen an advert for it anywhere. Just keep your head down Algebe. They will go away eventually, I suppose.

The Graham Circus tries. But

The Graham Circus tries. But since the death of its originator and patriarch, it has tempered that Circus somewhat. Franklin just never had the same appeal to the masses as Billy. It think a lot of it had to with the changes in some of the laws in NC. After those changes, the Graham Circus actually started focusing in other states.

Remember, I have said that when I was child, that the State of North Carolina actually had laws that made it legal to beat the shit out of any child considered "disruptive" in "any" form of "classroom" setting. That included the Sunday School Classes. By the time NC repealed those laws, I was already in the USNavy. And the funny thing is, no teacher/principal would beat a child in high school. Why? Because some of us were actually bigger than the teachers. I never was because I was more like a tree stump until I was 16/17 and had to quit sports due to my growth spurt causing so much pain.

Since I was always asking legitimate questions against the stories of the Bible, I was considered to be a "disruptive godless heathen" or "disruptive satanic pagan" in every Sunday School class. Thus, in accordance to the laws, this allowed the Pastor to beat the shit out of me every damned Sunday. And even when I suppressed those memories so deeply that I had completely forgotten them until joining these forum boards (45+ years), I still had the bad "cringe" effect for every Sunday. Still do. I wished we would renamed that sorry day. Or eliminate it. Make a 6 day week and tell the Religious Absolutists, "Fuck you. Your special day is no longer required."

Hell, a six day week might could work. Nah, then everybody would bitch about having only day off each week.

Anyway, I am ranting again. Let me shut the Hell up. When Billy died, I actually celebrated. Got drunk that night drinking to his death. Then again, I am still waiting for Oral Roberts, Pat Robertson, and the other "big ones" during my childhood to finally die. And good riddance. The only thing I can say is, "If there is a Hell as they describe it, they are the ones going."

Well the Franklin Graham ad

Well the Franklin Graham ad has gone, but now I'm getting marriage proposals from the Philippines on the AR website.
