Perhaps it might be more

Perhaps it might be more accurate to say they were enslaved over a longer period of time?

Us Caucasians, especially Americans, may have actually enslaved more by numbers?

Just some thoughts.

No. Arabs enslaved more by

No. Arabs enslaved more by numbers and over a longer period of time. What people also miss is that Arab nations attacked US ships and enslaved everyone on board. The US government paid them bribe money to keep them from enslaving our citizens. It did not work. Many white Americans were also slaves.

"Over 28 Million Africans have been enslaved in the
Muslim world during the past 14 centuries." ..... "While the European involvement in the
Transatlantic slave trade to the Americas lasted for
just over three centuries, the Arab involvement in
the slave trade has lasted fourteen centuries, and in
some parts of the Muslim world is still continuing to
this day. A comparison of the Muslim slave trade to
the American slave trade reveals some interesting
contrasts. " One of the great things about being a male Muslim owned slave is that you were immediately castrated.

"Between 1525 and 1866, in the entire history of the slave trade to the New World, according to the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade Database, 12.5 million Africans were shipped to the New World. 10.7 million survived the dreaded Middle Passage, disembarking in North America, the Caribbean and South America." "And how many of these millions or Africans were shipped directly to North America? Only about 388,000. That’s right: a tiny percentage."

"Muslims also enslaved Europeans. According to Robert Davis, between 1 million and 1.25 million Europeans were captured between the 16th and 19th centuries by Barbary corsairs, who were vassals of the Ottoman Empire, and sold as slaves.[22][23][24] These slaves were captured mainly from seaside villages from Italy, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, and also from more distant places like France or England, the Netherlands, and even Iceland. They were also taken from ships stopped by the pirates.[25]"

The effects of these attacks were devastating: France, England, and Spain each lost thousands of ships. Long stretches of the Spanish and Italian coasts were almost completely abandoned by their inhabitants, because of frequent pirate attacks. Pirate raids discouraged settlement along the coast until the 19th century.[26][27]

Thanks Cog. Slavery is a

Thanks Cog. Slavery is a topic I have never studied with any kind of depth due to the fact I find it so abhorrent, that was all I needed to know.

I barely remember what we were forced to learn in high school. As far as I am concerned, I was forced to learn more than I needed.

Thanks again for info.

What's the point of this

What's the point of this comparison? Turning people into commodities, livestock, and machines is immoral, whether you do it to millions for centuries or to one person for a day.

No nation or ethnicity is innocent. At one time or another we've all profited from the chains.

We look back smugly on these awful histories of slavery as if we had finally succeeded in eliminating this evil from our world. The tragic fact is that millions of people are enslaved right now.

The point of this comparison

The point of this comparison is probably,

* split hairs and argue because of boredom
* alleviate guilt
* belittle a group
* loneliness
* trolling

Take your pick. Sounds like a peeing contest, yes?

@Magnificent Beast Re: "The point of this comparison is probably....... * belittle a group..."

Sooooo.... What's your point, exactly? As far as I am concerned, ANY and ALL groups that might still participate in slavery activities should ABSOLUTELY get belittled and insulted and denigrated and outright ANNIHILATED as much as humanly possible. And I don't care if they have practiced it for thousands of years involving millions of slaves or only started last week involving only one slave. Totally belittle the shit out of them. They deserve far worse than that, though.

HUH? @Magnificent Beast

HUH? @Magnificent Beast "split hairs, peeing contest, etc...." Where in the hell did you see any of that. There is an assertion with links by the OP." "arakish - chimed in with his thoughts." "I offered clarification with more links." "arakish thanked me for the info and links"
"Algebe wondered why we were bother comparing histories when slavery is still an issue in the world today - something that I also mentioned in my post prior." Algebe's post is well received and spot on. Not only is there slavery in places like Africa and the Middle East but there are slavery rings in Canada, America, Europe and South America. Slavery in the world is alive and well. Where is this peeing contest you are speaking of?
