I did it!

As of December 31, I will be officially retired!

Now I have to learn lawn bowling and tai chi.

Congrats CyberLN!

Congrats CyberLN!

Do you think you will be on these boards more or less once retired?

Retiring right before the year 2020 makes a nice easy to remember number ;) And you can brag to everyone how you have been retired and have not worked since the last decade starting January 1st!

Lawn bowling is fun. Especially if the lawn is not a perfectly manicured "golf course" like green lawn. No strategy or skill is needed, just go out and have fun.

Take good care of yourself and don't make any more major life decisions for the next six months. Welcome to the New You. Get your feet solidly on the ground before you take off running again. Retirement is not the end of anything, it is merely a new starting place. Adventure is waiting.

I am right behind you. Feb. 28, 2020, I will be retired from the university I work for. I have made arrangements to get a CELTA certification. With the certification I can continue teaching ESL, English as a Second Language, in schools and universities all over the world. (Any country that does not have age discrimination laws - Like Korea or China.) In 5 years the amount of Social Security I get from the US government will nearly double. As I am waiting for that to double, I get to continue my travels around the world. I think Vietnam is next but Thailand is also looking pretty good. Life is just an adventure worth living. Best wishes to you and your plans for the future!

Way to go, Cyber! Definitely

Way to go, Cyber! Definitely important to have a hobby or something lined up to fill the space. Personally, I just sit on the front pirch all day and wait for opportunities to yell at kids to, "GET OFF MY LAWN!" Granted, living a quarter mile from the main road with only one neighbor makes for very few opportunities, but I'm not giving up just yet. Sure, it's been about seven years now without any juvenile interlopers, but I'm starting to feel lucky. Yep, annnnnnnny day now.... *rocking back and forth in rocking chair*...

Good for you.

Good for you.

I've been retired for 20 years, because I could.

One tiny bit of advice; If you have not done so, write out a plan for how you will spend your time. I didn't, and regretted it

If possible, seriously consider a 'hobby job'

Thank you all...I’m so

Thank you all...I’m so excited to be able to focus on my art work, finishing a novel that was started far too long ago, and return to community theatre.

Ewwww! Art and Community

Ewwww! Art and Community Theater! Sounds Great! You may have to write your own play to keep busy.

I wish you happiness in your retirement. Keep busy.

I'm not sure I'd have the courage to take that step. My name is Alan and I'm a workaholic.
