I don't think any straw was use if those little boys got herpes. A good question is, why does the rabbi have herpes?

Proud Jewish boy's picture
A straw is used and that is

A straw is used and that is the rabbinic law.

"Fast facts about herpes:
There are two types of herpes simplex viruses: HSV-1 (herpes type 1, or oral herpes) and HSV-2 (herpes type 2, or genital herpes).
More than 50 percent of people in the United States have HSV-1.
Around 15.5 percent of people in the U.S. aged 14-49 have HSV-2."

So.. people figured out

So.. people figured out babies clot better around the 8th day, but took 1000+ years to figure out clean hands and sterile environment is important if a mother/baby is to survive a birth with complications?

Why couldn't this "god" save all the innocent children caught in the black death plague? "Hey, crowded conditions + rats + fleas = bad and avoid them if you want to live" tidbit in the torah, or anywhere?

A mildly useful tidbit of info for a, as you admit: strange unknown reason ritual, that is freely available to everyone. But not a peep on far more useful information that would of saved millions of innocent lives? Either your god is evil/insane or your god does not exist.

Proud Jewish boy's picture
God didn't give the Torah to

God didn't give the Torah to tell the Jews the cures to sicknesses. He came to tell commandment, and as a side point he happened to choose a specific random day which ultimately has significant as we discussed.

Not helping the case against:

Not helping the case against: "your god is insane/evil."

He makes a commandment, it happens to have slight medical logic (8th day, not circumcision) that you point that out as evidence of god's wisdom over man before man discovered it themselves, (maybe.)

Now you say that was never gods intention, but to make a commandment instead, for no reason you can discern. And you (we?) should all obey it unquestioningly.

Proud Jewish boy - Ironically

Proud Jewish boy - Ironically, it reaches its peak at the eighth day.

Do you have an academic source for that claim? I looked, and couldn't find one. Thanks.

Proud Jewish boy's picture
It's all over the internet,

It's all over the internet, do your homework

Nyarlathotep's picture
Yeah, I looked and in fact

Yeah, I looked and in fact everything I found contradicted your claim. Saying that breastfeed babies don't reach normal levels of vitamin K until they are about 40+ days old. So please; can you give an academic source for the claim? Thanks.

You have no source links do you? Is faith the only way to prove your god is real?

It will take me a while to find an academic source for it, but bc every website mentions it and no one questions its credibility, I would assume it's academically approved as well.

Nyarlathotep's picture
Proud Jewish boy - but bc

Proud Jewish boy - but bc every website mentions it and no one questions its credibility, I would assume it's academically approved as well

Right; lots of blogs mention it and no one questions its credibility; that should have alarm bells ringing in your head; if you are a skeptic. Couple that with my inability to find one (you don't know me but I'm pretty good at finding academic sources, I wrote a guide on this very website about it) and your initial refusal (and continued inability) to provide one; and my bullshit detector is about to explode.

I do not have linking ability

I do not have linking ability right now but have already found medical sites which state that a newborns clotting factors start to form within a few weeks and reach adult levels in a few months. If this 8 day gibberish is still an issue in the morning I will provide links.

Nyarlathotep's picture
Sounds consistant with what I

Sounds consistent with what I found; and of course inconsistent with the OP claims.

Proud Jewish boy's picture
I will do full fledged

I will do full fledged research, which might take some time. Thanks for your patience

You will do research? You

You will do research? You mean to say you posited the eight day thing without having done so already?

Nyarlathotep's picture
I have a prophecy:

I have a prophecy:
No peer reviewed source will be provided for the claim; yet the claim will not be withdrawn by the OP.

Bonus prophecy:
In a short period of time, the OP will make the claim again, forgetting this conversation ever happened.

CyberLN's picture
If those prophesies come to

If those prophesies come to pass can we start a new religion?

"First, babies are born with very limited amounts of Vitamin K. Their levels are lowest at days 2-3 and do not reach adult levels until about 6 months of age."

I do not get my science information from bronze aged myths. If I had tuberculosis I would get medications from a doctor. I would not call a witch doctor and have them sprinkle dead birds blood using a live flapping bird as a brush.

Nyarlathotep's picture
What first triggered by

What first triggered by bullshit alarm was the precision of the claim: that babies have peak vitamin K levels when they are 8 days old. I don't know shit about vitamin K; but I know humans have a lot of variation between them. So the precise claim of 8 days smelled a little fishy. If he had said they hit their peak level between 6 to 10 days; it probably would have slipped past my detector.

Lesson to the bullshit artists: don't make precise claims! And in all fairness to Proud Jewish boy, I'm sure he just copied this from a blog; and isn't the originator of this bullshit.

xenoview's picture
What makes my bullshit meter

What makes my bullshit meter go off is him not using the verse from Genesis 17:9-13.
In Genesis 17:12, God commanded Abraham to circumcise newborns males on the eighth day. “And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you,… “

My BS meter defaults to "max"

My BS meter defaults to "max" as soon as someone Identifies as theist on an atheist debate board. They have to show to me they are not full of BS, before I assume anything they say is not BS. Is fun to debate them though.

As a man of integrity and

As a man of integrity and honesty, I drop this claim until I find academic sources (I've emailed the editors of some of the websites who make this claim and I am currently waiting for a response...). I'd like to direct you all to a far greater evidence and support for the Torah, one which I already have sources for, and that is the thread entitled "proof for the Torah" regarding the prophecies in Deuteronomy 28. If you are simply a hater then go ahead with your hate comments after this post and attack me. If you are open minded and honest with yourselves then take a look through that thread.
Thank you!

Well I guess my first

Well I guess my first prophecy is busted. But the beauty of prophecy is I can just keep making them until one comes true!

Proud Jewish boy - If a prophecy totally fails, then the credibility of the claim is shattered

See this is where you and I differ. I'm a skeptic. If any part of a prophecy is wrong, it is a failed prophecy. Anyone can make partially true prophecies, that is trivial.

Proud Jewish boy's picture
I agree with you, I never

I agree with you, I never argued. I was going on your comment you posted right before this one. Anyway, no part of Deuteronomy 28 wasn't fulfilled.
