Is Conflict Thesis dead?

Hey all.

Well, I am astonished. I have just read the Wikipedia article "Relationship between religion and science" only to find out that Science and Religions are good pals and have ever been!

There is this thesis according to WP, that two pseudo-historians in the 19th century made claims based on fictitious stories (eg gallileo trail) that were popularized until the mid-1970 where history scientists found out that Religion actually nourished Science. Here is the quote:

"It was in the 19th century that relationship between science and religion became an actual formal topic of discourse, while before this no one had pitted science against religion or vice versa, though occasional complex interactions had been expressed before the 19th century.[38] Most contemporary historians of science now reject the conflict thesis in its original form and no longer support it.[39][40][41][6][7][8][42]"

There is another article in WP, "Conflict Thesis", that tells the same story.

I did more research, I digged into Stanford's Encyclopedia and ...the same story over there. (article: Religion and Science)

So, fellow atheist, what is our respond to this?
