Calilasseia - Already shredded that one.

Right, but I'd like to hear his response to what you wrote.

I'm waiting for evidence that

I'm waiting for evidence that he's capable of actual debate, as opposed to posting Gish Gallops of blind assertions. So far I see none.

"What shall we debate first?"

First off, why? You started this entire post with a shotgun approach. You created the conditions that led to this confusion. From this I hope you have learned that the shotgun approach is not a rational or POLITE method of debate.

So when we discuss a topic, mingling in other topics just clouds the entire picture. You are requesting that we just stick to one topic, but before we get to that stage, I expect YOU stick to just one topic in a debate, and not introduce something out of left field.

I hope you understand that in your opening post you introduced six different topics. Transitional fossils, thermodynamics, evolution, faith-based beliefs, standards of education, and carbon dating.

But I suggest we get thermodynamics out of the way, I suspect Nyarlathotep has not eaten for a few days and longs for some juicy raw meat.

I sure hope you know something about this subject.

You know "Let’s pick one topic and talk about it. It’s been to spread out and I can’t keep up with everyone. What shall we debate first?

I guess this latest troll You (don't) Know(anything), is just preaching and peddling the usual moronic creationist propaganda and end to end logical fallacies, which he's never actually going to acknowledge, let alone debate.

WHY IS HE IN A DEBATE FORUM?

As if we didn't know...

You're not interested in debate...AT ALL, you never were...also why do theists keep hitting that return key, yet have a pathological fear of the shift & comma key?

"Let’s pick one topic and talk about it"

That made sense, but within 24 hours of you posting this attempt at organization, you proposed three subjects, possession, consciousness, and souls. I cautioned you against the shotgun approach, but you either did not grasp it, or are deliberately being a douche.

So what are you, and why should anyone give you an iota of respect?

Get your shit together, stick to just one subject, assemble your arguments, and gather your data if you truly intend to have an adult and worthy conversation. Please.

Okay. Fair enough. That's easy.

Possession is nine-tenths ownership.

There. We have that out of the way. Next topic, please.

@You Know Re: "How about consciousness"

I typically try to ignore my conscious. But in the back of my mind, on a subconscious level, I know I'm only trying to fool myself into believing I don't exist.

Re: "What do you guys think about Souls"

That's awfully presumptuous of you to assume I actually think about anything... *indignant look*... Although, now that you mention it, if I have to stand around on a concrete surface for long periods of time, my soles tend to get really sore and achy.... *looking back at post*... Woops! My bad. You said SOULS.. Oh, in that case, I sold mine to the Devil a long time ago. He tried to bring it back, but I told him, "Nope. No refunds." His own fault. He should have read the contract. It clearly stated, "Being sold As Is. Seller will not be held responsible for defects after purchase. No refunds." Besides, he had lost the receipt anyway. To this day I still get a phone call from him periodically practically begging me to take it back. He doesn't even want his money returned now. Too bad, Satan. A deal is a deal.

"What do you guys think about Souls"

Zero proof of souls. Just something invented by theistic leaders to control the masses. You have to get the ignorant populace to believe in souls so you can control them with fear.

IMO that worst part of "souls" is that it almost completely destroys the quality of life for most. They fail to understand that this is the only life they will experience, and are too easily swayed into living a dull life, or worse, becoming a "martyr".

Terrorists believe in souls or else they would not fly airliners into buildings.

The only souls I know of are ah-souls, they keep breezing through here trying to troll, brain dead theists with no life, sad really. They give themselves sad pretentious usernames like You Know, but sadly irony passes them by.

Personally, I've never been there, so I don't have an opinion about it. But Cog lives in Korea, so maybe he can give you some useful input.

Hey, Cog! What do you think about Seoul? You've been there before, right?

Re: Souls: I was fine with

Re: Souls: I was fine with the original definition given to us by the King James bible in which the word simply meant "Living Being" and was applied to both humans and animals. This is, in fact, where we get the terms "## of souls lost at sea. " or "## of souls on board."

" And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." Genesis 2:7 The word soul meant living breathing being.

"Now days, everything is changing to match the Christian perspective and modern bibles NIV, New KJ, New Living Version, all omit the word soul and just use the term "living being."

NET: "man became a living person."
NKJ: "and man became a living being."
ESV: "and the man became a living creature."

The trend has been to eliminate the word "Soul" and give the word a "special meaning" different from "living being" what seems to me to be its original definition/ The traditional concept of an immaterial and immortal soul distinct from the body was not found in Judaism before the Babylonian exile and it does not appear in the early Old Testament. The Soul, like Hell, is largely a Christian invention, asserted without facts or evidence of any kind.

OH SEOUL!

OH SEOUL!
Save your money. I'm not real sure why anyone would come to Korea. There is no Soul in Seoul. I have not been there for about 8 years now. If traffic, subways, and department stores jam packed full of people are your thing, you will have a great time.

Psssst... Hey... Free... Sometimes you might want to make it clear and indicate when you are being sarcastic/facetious. Just a tip.

(Uh, you WERE being sarcastic, right?)

rwreeves's picture
yeah, I am a sarcastic kind

yeah, I am a sarcastic kind of guy. AND hard core skeptic. I will debate the truth of EVO-LUTION with all my "soul".. er "heart"?... or whatever word is not hijacked to mean something supernatural. EVIL-LUTION is what I label as the apologist viewpoint.

Trust me, I am in the right place and among brothers in arms. My humor is a bit "dry". Sorry. I am actually a bit militant as I have suffered from the great delusion far too long.

Tin-Man's picture
@FreeAtLast Re: Dry humor

@FreeAtLast Re: Dry humor and militant attitude

...LMAO... Yeah, I'm a big fan of dry humor. That is why I recognized it in that post you made. But sometimes it is not so easily detected in written form on here. That's why I wanted to make sure it was meant to be humor. Matter of fact, you might want to edit it and put a little "footnote" indicating it was sarcasm. Helps cut down on misunderstandings... *chuckle*...

And I can definitely relate to that attitude. During my first few months on here my attitude nearly got my ass booted from the site. Thankfully (and gratefully) a very wise and patient mod put a couple of dents in this thick skull of mine and helped me get through the anger that was controlling me. Since then I have had an absolute blast on here. Good fun. I do understand the anger and frustrations caused by all those years of deceit. Just don't allow those feelings to ruin the freedom you now have. Let it go, man. The shit just ain't worth it.

I can't debate or even talk

I can't debate or even talk with anyone who believes themselves so pious, so spiritually superior, to think I or any one else here is, a demon, a non-human agent. That's simply not a sane thought.
Evil abounds, but it is only apparent in your condemnation of those who disagree with you or rather your current idea of a god. Its the viewpoint of a madman to think he is surrounded by devils.
When, or if, you ever, realise, you are in the company of fellow human beings, in a reality that has no supernatural shadows, come back and maybe we can attempt intelligent conversation again.

"I can't debate or even talk with anyone who believes themselves so pious, so spiritually superior,"

Perhaps intolerant of me, but I have only contempt for anyone who claims knowledge of an absolute ,exclusive truth. The same person often has the arrogance to believe/claim that I and anyone else who disagrees with them is 'less than' -------I went to Catholic schools in the 1950's and 60's. That was the dominant culture; the superiority of Catholics over anyone who was not Catholic. Of course ,now it's the evangelicals. Catholics have become more subtle, but have not changed in essence as far as I can see. . .

When I was about 7, the mother superior said to the class; :"Please stop throwing rocks and saying unkind things to the protestant children. It's not their fault their parents made them protestants and they are all going to hell" (I swear)

Imo, 2000 years of Catholic culture is not going to be changed by some chiding and a few earnest encyclicals. I'll believe change has occurred when the church accepts gays as members and as clergy , allows women to become priests and priests to marry (clerical celibacy did not become canon law until 1139) ---and of course immediately surrenders errant priests to civil authority.

--------Oh look, just outside my window; The Royal Australian Squadron of Flying Pigs is passing, in formation.

@ Cranky

@ Cranky

That's certainly not intolerant of you. Its just reasonable expectation for courtesy and respect, the sort they seek in the forthcoming Freedom of Religion legislation.

I grew up thinking throwing rocks at protestant kids must have been a part of Catholic upbringing. There were a few 'rock chopper gangs' defining possession of their streets with rocks, in the suburbs where I grew up. I thought that was where the name "rock chopper" came from. They seemed to have an inexhaustible supply. As a good protestant I had no respect for their claims but I got really good at dodging.
