I went to a Catholic school, so prayers were a bit excessive. We had prayers before starting class every morning, fairly typical stuff for Catholic Schools. As well as a large ,framed colour photo of the pope on the back wall of the chapel.
Perhaps a bit more startling for the casual observer: Every hour, on the hour, one of the class suck ups would clap his hands loudly, three times. Then, in an unctuously pious voice, would intone, "Let us remember that we are in the holy presence of GOD!" I shit you not.

NICE! I have followed the teachings of the great Penn Gillette for years now. When I get American money I take a black permanent marker and black out the word God. (Remember, I live in Korea, so I don't handle that much US currency. Still, I am on vacation and currently have $1000 in 100 dollar bills in my hotel room safe. None of them have the world God on them.. It's a simple protest but imagine coming across one of these bills. Once the word is blacked out the Christians can not fix it. Eventually they will all be blacked out. Wouldn't that be amazing? I have never received a bill that has been blacked out but I hope to some day.
Cunning in its simplicity. If I ever get any US currency I shall do the same.
