Health Care

I just received an email enticing me to sign up (and I would imagine to pay) for a “Christian Health Plan”.

What? The email did not indicate what made it xtian versus non-xtian health care plans. Do you suppose if I came down with leprosy they would sprinkle me with bird blood?

Well, that, of course. Plus, they would send out notices to have you put on the prayer lists of participating churches all across the country.

The devil is in the details of every contract. The difference is they get to keep the money whether you receive help or not.

@CyberLN: You pay your monthly fees and Ken Hamm prays for you so that you never get lupus. Don Stewart sends you a green prayer cloth and you can magically talk in tongues.

You can use a nice Shiraz for that, much more fulfilling.

You should get it. My understanding is it moves not only your prayers, but prayers for you, to the front of the line.

I have seen this nonsense in

I have seen this nonsense in the news. Christians forming these managed health care groups and offering discounts if enough members of a church will join. Smells fishy to me (no pun intended). What could go wrong with a group of evangelists managing your health care finances?

What is crazy is, this is

What is crazy is, this is closer to how health insurance is supposed to go, large groups of people pooling monthly payments to cover for the rare catastrophic highly expensive health care. A sharing of risk to make the risk manageable to any one individual. Instead of the giant for profit systems we have in place in the US that eliminates competition, price comparison etc.

What is even more crazy is: many people are okay with a large powerful entity that has no real "check" on it like religion that answers to no one but the unevidenced "god," but if you wanted to do something more reasonable like have duly elected officials organize a shared risk system to mitigate catastrophe, they will scream "communism!" and "socialism!" until your ears bleed. Even if such a system could drive down cost for the people, the real problem here is: the multi billion dollar health industry execs and shareholders will suffer which is why little to no progress is made here.
