Words have many usages. Linguists understand how we can overlap the usage of words better than most. So to push to use a word as one definition and then shift it to mean another is just dubious!
True, but when make the exceptional claims that religion does these words really need to be clear and concise.
It's stunning to me just how vague the descriptions are, and to a skeptic it just comes across as a desperate ploy to make a god unfalsifiable.
Sadly, I'm not stunned. This is par for the course in philosophy; no rigor.
@Peripatetic
You think that thoughts matter...WHY?
"You think that thoughts matter"
Is that a question or a proposition? and what do you mean by thoughts?
perception of the world
@Peripatetic
Perceptions of reality and the world as a human being would perceive it. Ideas and thoughts that are derived from the brain of a human.
AKA THOUGHTS
Nyarlathotep - Unfortunately you are right, theists have from what I have witnessed, three avenues...
1 - Theology (which isn't evidence or proof)
2 - Linguistics (which isn't evidence of proof)
3 - Anecdotes From their holy books (guess what...)
When hard pressed they twist and turn away from answering direct questions, even in top debates I've seen theologians turn to goo in the wake of questioning from a Christopher Hitchens and others...
It's a shame, I think by being honest and answering they will fail but build better arguments.
