I must admit I do admire the way you can just Breeze through the conversations here.
The only other person I knew who had the self discipline to do that was an undergraduate Psych student idolised by his professors for his intellect and grasp of subject.
I just wish there were two of them. We need that sort of intellect here.

In reply to the original poster: I'm a theist who encountered an atheist who claimed science proved God does not exist. As support for his claim he cited Neil deGrasse Tyson. He claimed Tyson was an atheist scientist who proved God does not exist and offered that proof in the television series "Cosmos". Personally I didn't see any such proof in that series. So this fellow referred me to the Atheist Republic for proof. In the meantime I did some fact checking and discovered that Tyson does not call himself an atheist, rather, he calls himself agnostic. So much for the hypothesis that atheists have facts to back their claims. Incidentally, Tyson is most certainly dead set against fundamentalist versions of theism, and I agree with him. Many atheists seem to believe that fundamentalist theism is all of theism, a serious over generalization and flaw in atheist thinking.
So why did I come here? 1) to learn about atheism. I have no desire to turn anyone into a theist. 2) upon pursuing many posts and conversing in many threads I discovered that many atheists are mixed up. I encourage atheists to be good atheists. Part of being a good atheist is improving your thinking. You need an atheist thinker/writer who is top a notch thinker as a model. Dawkins is very popular, but I can assure you, he is far from a top notch thinker.

I would assume a top notch thinker like yourself would understand that atheism makes no claims and would know that one can be both atheist and agnostic. One would think that anyone who had done even the most basic research would understand this, and yet, this forum shows that those of the theist mindset cannot seem to get this through their thick skulls.
Of course, unlike Dawkins, you are a top notch thinker. Oh the irony.

Atheism is a non believe in a god or gods. Dictionary definition. Agnosticism is about knowledge, as in I don't know. So I don't know if there is a god (Agnostic) AND I don't believe in any gods (Atheist).
This is not brain surgery and a person of your great intellect shouldn't have any issues understanding AND using properly going forward, I assume.

2) You claimed that atheists make no claims. Proof of that claim?
Do you understand what "Definitions" are.

Atheism is defined as the lack or absence of belief in any deity or deities, it is therefore manifestly not a claim, though an atheist may make a claim about the non-existence of a deity and remain an atheist. He is demonstrably correct.
The proof of this statement litters these forum, in the evidence of multiple theists who have tried to peddle this dishonest misrepresentation of atheism, even your own post show the statement to be objectively true.

I disagree with whatever atheist you spoke to.
I think science has zero "proof" or rather as I like to put it, demonstrable evidence for their being no "god."
I think Neil deGrasse Tyson is a real cool guy, but I highly doubt he was ever trying to "disprove god in the tv series cosmos.
I do think there are quite a few theist that define their god, all the way out of existence. (god of the gaps.) Other times I realize they could just as easily swap out the word god for their idea to just simply the universe.
But ultimately to me none of that really matters. Billions of people for thousands of years tried to evidence their god idea. Far as I know of, none succeeded in evidencing their god idea.
So to me these god ideas remain just that, a human created idea. No greater or lesser idea then my rainbow farting unicorn god idea save argumentum ad populum. I am a skeptic, and I am an atheist. I am atheist because I am not theist.
It would help if you reference some of your statements. For example, can you give me an instance of a theist who defines God as a "God of the gaps"?
Can you give an example of a theist who tried to "evidence their god idea"?
One thing that comes to mind upon reading your post is often I have asked atheists here to tell me what they mean by "evidence".
I get no answer. Seems that atheists have an idea of "evidence" that is uncritically accepted, and vaguely, if at all, defined.
I think that something is "evidence" for you only if you believe it is evidence.
There is nothing wrong with believing "these god ideas" are human created. Humans do create things. For example, some humans created the idea that the universe came from nothing, and that nothing = cosmic radiation. They have no proof if it, however. there is no proof that cosmic radiation = nothing and that the universe came from cosmic radiation. Even so, many atheists have that faith.
I wrote several times, demonstrable evidence.
As in evidence that one can actually demonstrate.
Okay let me step back and use an example.
You, Apollo, owe me 1 million dollars. Provide demonstrable evidence that you do not.
I imagine you realized, you can't. Does that mean I am right? Should I expect a check for 1 million in the mail?
Or do you now realize, the burden of proof remains solely with the claimant? To do otherwise is ridiculous.
