They found more evidence of life on Mars.

I remember reading from more than one absolutist on this board saying if they found life on another planet that they would begin to question their religion.

Well that day has arrived.

Okay okay, just another powerful marker that there probably was life. Fine, not as quiet as exciting. Evidence is getting pretty compelling though.

I am confident plenty will spin it with "well that is not really a sign of life!" Good luck defining life that closely...

I highly doubt very many people are going to abandon their religion. Powerful evidence contrary to religion existed before, just 1 more to the pile is not likely to change very many people's minds.

It is kind of fun to sit back and watch the apologist squirm though.

Still what an amazing discovery and story. All the scientist knew, that this day was inevitable, and that: they will find proof of life on Mars soon enough only a matter of time, and that day is today.

Life is now proven to not be isolated to only Earth. Guess we earthlings are not so special after all ;)

Thoughts anyone?

*Edited to keep claim of life in line with what has been found.

There has been a buzz since

There has been a buzz since NASA announced this special press briefing associated with Mars Curiosity Rover. I sat in on a Twitch stream by Dr Pamela Joy, herself a planetary scientist. She was able to break it down to digestible bits for us laypersons. Here is the NASA stream.

First off, this is not proof or even confirmation of life on Mars. We are still many decades away from getting to that point in time. What it is though, is confirmation that the "discoveries" are in line with the model of possible life on Mars. All of the evidence is pointing in the right direction.

When most people talk about life on other planets, they are actually referring to Klingons or Romulans. But the reality is that at best, we may find signs of extremely simple and primitive life forms, not even single celled organisms.

But today's news may seem anti-climatic, but for the scientific community, this news opens up many new avenues of exploration, bringing us closer to a better understanding of the universe.

It drives yet another bus

It drives yet another bus through most theistic creation myths anyway. Life on Mars is no more mentioned in monotheistic creation myths than dinosaurs, and for fairly obvious reasons.

Yea, I saw that. It just got

Yea, I saw that. It just got worse for the Creationists. Their ancestors were not apes but space dwelling microbes on a hunk of ice that happened to smash into the earth. Poor Creationists.
