How can atheism account for the existence of the universe? Or, on the atheistic view, where did the universe come from?

Atheism does not explain anything. Atheism is JUST the lack of belief in a god or gods.
Precisely, atheism per se explains nothing, it just means reasoning is free to be objective, rational and open minded, rather than bending every objective fact so they reinforce superstitious myths, and the belief in a deity from a risible bronze age superstition. As AJ777 is doing here again, rather than making an objective and rational observation about how the universe originated, he is using a fallacious argument from ignorance by asking how can something possibly exist without his superstitious belief in a deity being real. The bias of the question is manifest, as is the logical fallacy it is predicated on.
As manifest as the fact AJ777 is and always has been a troll on here, and has no more interest in rational objective or honest debate than SFT.
...as has been explained a nearly infinite number of times.
Atheists don’t believe in god. We don’t pretend to have all the answers. Just because you lack knowledge, doesn’t mean “god did it “.
Why doesn’t god have a wife? Doesn’t he get horny? Has god ever had sex? If not, why? He made us to fuck. Doesn’t he?
Do you think god has a long penis? The Bible says man was created in his image, so does god have a big sausage, or average wiener?
That’s as interesting question as yours.
Of course god gets horny. Why do you think he has The Father, The Son, The Holy Spirit, and all those male angels...

Once again, this isn't the province of "atheism", rather, it's the province of cosmological physics. Which you would know if you didn't have this strange obsession with ascribing to atheism topics that are not part of its remit.
Once and for all, learn this elementary concept. Atheism, in its rigorous formulation, is nothing more than suspicion of unsupported supernaturalist assertions. That is IT. Atheism doesn't involve presenting assertions of any sort on any topic, and leaves this process to [1] supernaturalists like you, or [2] whichever requisite experts in the requisite disciplines can both present relevant assertions, and the supporting evidence for those assertions. Learn this elementary concept quickly to spare yourself even more embarrassment than you've already acquired here.
Now, as to the matter of the ideas arising from cosmological physics, there are a number of these, and any reasonably diligent perusal of arXiv will find plenty of papers discussing these ideas, and the attempts to formulate those ideas in a rigorous manner. However, proper understanding of many of these papers requires a grounding in tensor analysis, and in particular, the rather intimidating mathematics of the Ricci calculus, which is the branch of mathematics specifically formulated to deal with such topics as curved spacetime geometries, spacetimes with many dimensions, and the multifarious offshoots of String Theory. However, the foundational concepts contained in some of those papers can be presented in elementary terms, because the authors thoughtfully provided the requisite expositions.
One example exposition I am aware of, arises from two papers written by Paul Steinhardt and Neil Turok. Fortunately I don't have to recapitulate the entire exposition on those papers, because I provided a post here back on March 24th, 2019, that contains said exposition, and you can click on that link and peruse the details at leisure.
However, the important point to realise at this juncture, is that there is one feature that all of the various hypotheses presented in the world of cosmological physics have in common, namely, that they postulate the existence of testable natural processes that are responsible for the instantiation of the observable universe and its contents, along with relevant well-defined entities and interactions. Though in the case of those entities and interactions requiring definitions via the Ricci calculus, untangling what these are precisely is itself a major undertaking for non-experts in the field. However, the papers in question are intended to be read and understood by other trained cosmological physicists, so the terseness of some of those papers is unsurprising in the light of this fact.
In the meantime, I suggest you familiarise yourself not only with the elementary concepts I provided above, but the relevant hypotheses and their accompanying papers.
BOOM! Shaka laka boom! Shaka laka boom!
Yeah! Calilasseia!

Soooo... Based on that excellent post you just made, am I to understand it is very UNLIKELY the Ginormous Invisible Blue Universe-Creating Bunny was responsible for making the universe?.... *hanging head in sorrow*.... Dammit....
“Blue Universe-Creating Bunny ”....that does it! I’m getting some Blue Bunny Bunny Tracks ice cream now!
@Cyber Re: Blue Bunny Bunny Tracks ice cream
Ummm.... You might want to be a little wary if you spot tiny brown pellet pieces in there. Just sayin'...
I have two chinchillas. Little brown pellets are all over.
@Cyber Re: Chinchillas
Awwwww.... Tiny little furry animals are awesome!... *big smile*...
CyberLN: "I have two chinchillas. Little brown pellets are all over."
Ain't that the truth. Had two myself, plus an iguana. Should have watched the three play with each other.

Your questions assume the universe was created.
Holy Shit! How can so many, be so stupid. We have been through this with aj...so I call it now...
What's the word again? Lives under a bridge or in a cave...lives in small family units, hates humans, part of the Norse and Scandinavian mythology....Oh oh oh...the religious? Nope, nope that's not the word...precipitates stupidity online for self gratification...conjures stinky sock like friends who surprisingly have exactly the same views...you know what i'm talking about...whats that word dambnit...
Perhaps this image may help.

and
"OMD, its stupid AND ugly."
Sure you did not get it correct with that first guess (bold text)?

You ask a stupid question, you get a stupid answer.
I am plagiarizing the hell out of this one...

God must have a cock because we have a sperm whale! Fuck there is proof of god after all!!! Hail Jesus!! A sperm whale!!,
Dude, I can't even account for my socks.
Nyar, That’s the funniest thing I’ve read in here for quite a while!
@Nyar Re: "Dude, I can't even account for my socks."
....ROFLMFAO..... Best.... Answer.... EVER!....
With all due respect, Atheism is a positive belief. Atheists do have a burden to support their worldview just as do those who believe other worldviews. Just wondering if any atheist here is able to support their views.
LOL
@AJ777
"With all due respect, Atheism is a positive belief. Atheists do have a burden to support their worldview just as do those who believe other worldviews."
No matter how many times we say it, you cannot redefine atheism.
Atheism is not a belief system, it does not have a worldview.
@ AJ777
Once and for all, read these fucking definitions. Print them if you have to for future reference.
Agnostic, from the Greek: γνοσι (gnosi) = knowledge;
ενα- [usually shortened to α-] (ena- [usually shortened to a-]) = to be without;
thus, αγνοσι (agnosi) agnostic = to be without knowledge.
I am agnostic in there are many things I do not know. Thus, I am without that knowledge, thus agnostic. Everyone is agnostic to a certain point. I cannot put this any simpler.
Atheist, from the Greek: θεος (theos) = God, Lord, Creator;
ενα- [usually shortened to α-] (ena- [usually shortened to a-]) = to be without;
thus, αθεος (atheos) atheist = to be without God.
However, in today’s terminology, and more accurate, atheism actually means “a lack of or disbelief in any claims for the existence of any deity.”
Just curious. Do you happen to suffer from a short term memory malfunction? I only ask because all your questions have already been answered 1001 times.
