"You do not get to act as if you are standing on the moral high ground."

I wasn't trying to. I was merely pointing that out.
I would love to start over, but I'm afraid there is too much..... "Battlefield clutter", if you will, to do so.

I find it odd that not one

I find it sad that not one person who has posted took the time to read my post, just made rash assumptions about the intent of my OP. which by the way is two examples that proved that at least one of my characteristics on the behaivor of a Village Atheist is true. Vindication at its finest. It appears that no one here is capable of simply asking what my intent was, or asking me to clarify what i meant. But they sure can jump to conclusions, then rally behind the first to make this mistake. Without even trying to engage in honest discussion, maybe what I wrote hit a little too close to home. And in your attempt to argue only proved my OP to be correct. Now if anyone with a capacity to read and have an honest discussion wants to discuss my OP, without jumping to conclusions. then I welcome it, but please spare me this herd mentality.

I did, in fact, read your OP. I read your subsequent posts as well. Rash assumptions? Really? Isn't saying no one read your posts an assumption? Just because I heard what I heard from your words, you went on this, well, tangent.

Consider the common denominator....your post and multiple folks' response to it.

AlphaLogica157's picture
Yes, people jumping on your

Yes, people jumping on your band wagon and refusing the offer the decency to simply ask what it was my intent was? Because what I see with my own eyes and hear with my own ears is nothing more than a clique following your lead.

If you had actually read my OP and the posts that followed, you would have seen the multiple times I stated that I am not lumping all atheists together. Yet you ignored this and got all hung up on a single word.
then xaiver just followed along and continued to misrepresent my OP....I have no patience for this lame tactic of arguing against something I did not say.

So do you see your role in this? Because if you are honest you will. Yes I got mad, yes, i added fuel to the fire, but you did nothing to attempt finding common ground. And when Nylar just decided to drag up bullshit from a disagreement we had in an old post, no one called him out for it....I wonder why? Is it because you are all chummy and one is only as correct based on how much you like them?

I don't think that these

I don't think that these "practices" are restricted to just atheists. I think everyone does these sort of things. I try my best to avoid it, but I sometimes slip up. I'm not ashamed of it, I think of it more as proof for my humanity and a lesson to learn for the future.

No they are not exclusive to

No they are not exclusive to atheists, everyone is capable they will just manifest themselves in different forms depending on where one is coming from whether it be religion or politics. My examples are specific to atheists because that is where they are coming from. And as I said in my OP even i am guilty of these practices from time to time. Which is why wrote my OP, as a means of providing a way for us to work together to avoid them when we can. If one makes these mistakes then we should try and point it out so as to provide a better avenue to get real results. Just look at when a theist actually posts on these forums, it is not long before they are ganged up on by 8 people in opposition, 2 will try to have a reasonable discussion, but they other 6 will drown them out and all the theist will do is avoid the discussion. Maybe this is why we keep seeing a drive by post. They have no chance when the village atheists come with torches lit and foam at the mouth. It appears that what they want is an echo chamber, not debate.

AlphaLogica... I like your insights and your analytical posts, but for Darwin's sake...
You have a way of sounding assertive, decisive and almost obnoxious.

When they come in and

When they come in and misrepresent my OP, then refuse to acknowledge when I clarify my intent then they are not adding anything to the discussion, when they then start to troll, and act as if they did nothing wrong, patting themselves on the back for shitting all over the thread it pisses me off . Now the only person how has actually offered anything substantial to the discussion was SeenUb4 we did not agree, which is fine, but he did not go out of his way to jump on CyberLN's mistake and run with it. I am only responding in kind to they way they are acting. I do not claim that I am any better, but it appears that I am the only one capable of honestly acknowledging my role in this. You know that I can handle criticism and will admit I am wrong when it is shown to be true. But they came and shit all over this thread and you appear to only call me out...why is this?

ThePragmatic's picture
"you appear to only call me

"you appear to only call me out...why is this?"

Because I think you have really good points sometimes, because I think you really can contribute, but instead you get pissed off. You seem to lose your temper in a way you never did before.
Even though you write about good behavior, you're quick to loose it about small matters. So your grouping of atheists was offensive to CyberLN, why are you making such a fuss about it? And why the passive aggressive comments?

AlphaLogica157's picture
Fair enough, as I said my

Fair enough, as I said my behaivor was no better, and on me losing my temper i felt that I was being ignored and ganged up on for something I did not say. So i lost my patience, add the fact that I just got back on my ADD medication which takes time to adjust in my system, which makes me irritable at first (something I have a habit of forgetting) For a long time I had bad habits (passive aggressive responses are one example) in debate, something I worked hard to overcome and I try to share what I learned but I can still fall back into them when I lose my temper. So I thank you for calling me out, and making me take a second glance at my behavior. You offered fair criticism and I can see where you are coming from.

Thank you.

Thank you.

I started suspecting that it was something else than the actual discussion. Good of you to share about it.

I hope you’re not referring to our Gabriel ;). I don’t think it’s a case of ganging up him: a lot of us are simply frustrated with the man. I personally would love to have a rational conversation with him but we all know how that goes.

I agree with most of your OP but the words ‘we’ together with ‘should’ do tend to get my back up :) . Whilst I don’t belong to an atheist community at large I do consider myself a part of a community here at Atheist Republic.

Community
noun
Self-organized network of people with common cause or interest who collaborate by sharing ideas, information, and other resources. Virtual communities consist of participants in online discussions on topics of mutual concern, or of those who frequent certain websites.

(As for the ADD, I was beginning to think you’re a fellow bipolar - depending on how I feel I’ve learnt to wait an hour or so between writing, then re-reading and posting. Doesn’t always work though...)

@Xavier

The original post seems to be

The original post seems to be based on some of the comments here:

http://thehumanist.com/commentary/three-warning-signs-village-atheism-ne...

I never heard the term "village atheist" before. It seems to echo "village idiot."

The extent to which politics and religion are intertwined in the US never ceases to surprise and confuse me. Are there really people who believe the eradication of religion would eliminate racism overnight? Is atheism really associated with a lack of concern about social issues?

Three Warning Signs That

Three Warning Signs That Village Atheism Is Your New Religion - "I’m an atheist who appreciates empiricism and naturalistic explanations of phenomena and who uses the word “scientism” to refer to mindsets that either underappreciate, discount, or even denigrate the contributions of philosophy, the context provided by lived experiences, and the significance of social sciences. Hence, scientism in this context describes attitudes that view natural science as the only meaningful interpretation of life."

Well you can put my name on that list. I have less respect for the soft sciences, and even less for philosophy. The only thing I would object to is the phrase "new religion". It isn't religion, and it certainly isn't new.

Well you have also had the honourable title of "Traitor of atheism!". :D

Remember Dimitrios?
"“Probably there is no” has exactly the same meaning as “Probably there is” so what we have here is an atheist who preaches that there is probably a God, and you are laughing at me for calling him a traitor of atheism?"

The entire topic is a funny read. A blast from a recent past. :D
