corvid-19

So a god, has somehow injected a virus onto the World.

So 'The God' who has control over these matters says OK.

Forget about the Tsunamis.
the deaths from innocents.

And earthquakes and volcanic eruptions which killed many many humans.

How to the churches, mosques, etc
rationalize this?

Corvid 19, that is a new one. Normally I would not point out a typo, but it is in your title.

On a more serious note, I too am curious how the world will react to the religious components of this.

Covid-19, bird flu, SARS, all originated from live animal markets in China, a small percentage of the population likes to engage in superstition (unproven) effects of eating fresh as possible and quite often raw exotic animal flesh, in very poorly regulated live food markets.

Will China continue to allow a small percentage of citizens engage in this risky behavior? How far does religious freedom go?

Then, with current covid-19 a massive outbreak occurred in a secretive church in S. Korea that has people sit in massive gatherings "shoulder to shoulder" for hours, and people are expected to come in even if they are sick. They track members coming and goings with id cards and aggressively pursue those that do not show up, even if sick. (They usually have to make it up the next day.) Will, under "religious freedom" that be protected?

It may be interesting times for practices such as this.

@LogicFTW

I wonder what will happen to all the faith healers like Benny Hinn & others? Are they still going to hold their 'healing ministry' rallies while the outbreak is raging?

My guess is they will be hiding away in their mansions until the epidemic abates or a vaccine is created, so they themselves don't get the virus. They will have excuses as to why god cant protect believers from the virus, or heal people from the virus.

LogicFTW's picture
That will be interesting to

That will be interesting to watch. Are they finally going to get caught in their con red handed?

I dunno a lot of the folks they like to take advantage of may not be capable of looking past all their brainwashing to figure this out. But if even a small percentage do...

In other news, the mega church near me, has switched to streaming/online sermons only, with no date on resuming normal operations. (Had seating capacity for well over 2000 people.)

Hello again Mrs. Paul Owczarek, I hope you and your loved ones are doing OK. It is always a pleasure to stumble across you in here.

"EWTN News presents you with the facts without the politics"

Then they do not offer any facts but basically request you pray harder and buy holy water.

The COVID-19 crisis will be solved by science, rational minds, and a calm demeanor. I have facts, information, and a rational mind that will get me through this crisis.

Mrs. Paul Owczarek, aren't the actions of this "Bishop Obinim" too similar to what the church is doing?

Nice watch he has, similar to what Patriarch Kirill I, leader of the Russian Orthodox Church was caught wearing.

David Killens:

Glad my posts make you happy. So far my family's health is unaffected, but we are mostly getting work hours cut.

I mostly agree with your opinions of EWTN. I never was a fan of voodoo Catholicism. The prayers are a way of focusing a group together on a problem until a more practical solution comes to mind.

It is a toss up which outfit is more tasteless, a neon pink suit or the standard bishop's attire dressing up as a giant penis.

Incidentally, I heard that the Russian Orthodox Church is expanding. It is the new, fashionable way of Russian tribal bonding and identity. i.e. Make Russia Great Again. Why would ANYONE pay $10,000 for a watch. I got an accurate time piece from my son's Happy Meal.

@MPO,

@MPO,

I'm more concerned with what the pedophile priests are going to do during this crisis without the choir boys being in attendance.

That's why its so important that the God-fearing in this country join together and pray away this virus obviously initiated by atheists and homosexuals.

God bless.

7.83 billion population. WHO

7.83 billion population. WHO present mortality rate of 5.6%. Using WHO numbers, we can calculate the earths population will decrease by over 400 million, on the first pass...if no intervention is levied against the present infection rate. @84% being religious, that's about 370 million deaths of believers. Correct me if I am wrong.

Nyarlathotep's picture
doG - WHO present mortality

doG - WHO present mortality rate of 5.6%

I guessing (and hoping) that 5% comes from (people who died)/(people who have tested positive).

Of course the number that I'm more interested in is (number of people who died)/(number of people who caught the illness). Which of course is something I don't think anyone knows at the moment. I'm hoping this rate is much less than 5%.

But this is all just speculation on my part.

dogalmighty's picture
Well, it no looky good. 85%

Well, it no looky good. 85% infection rate. 5.6% mortality rate. Calculated against our population, at this moment in time, is a little under 400 mill. Likely socio-economic distribution will drop the mortality rate a bit. I would circle the middle east and countries bordering the indian ocean as populations that will suffer the most. You are right though, the full denominator is unknown due to the asymptomatic patients with the virus. Which from what I have read, is significant. So, guesstimate of 3-4%? Still, that's very bad. The spanish flu was nothing in comparison.

LogicFTW's picture
Spanish flu was far worse. It

Spanish flu was far worse. It tended to pick on the young and healthy. And especially the health workers. If this turns out to be worse than the spanish flu back in 1918, then expect a global recession and instability like nothing we have ever seen before. Fortunately all the indications I have read, this is not the case at all.

I seen scientific estimates, based on available data and some very fancy guess work put the global death rate at 1.6%

With the general health/age of a society and medical capability of a society in any given one area being the big factors that decide, for the area, if death rate going to be as low as below .1% or as high as 5-6%

Also if the pandemic gets bad enough, there is going to likely be a spike in deaths simply due to the fact that hospitals are overwhelmed. If you get a heart attack, there may simply not be available bed, equipment and staff on hand to give you the full works of life saving work, as medical centers capacity get stretched beyond anything they have ever seen before, many things that people normally have a good chance of surviving drops greatly. Add that to the fact that you are now in the same general area as potentially 100's or 1000's of people sick with a highly contagious disease.

I stress again, the deaths / confirmed cases, is a VERY inaccurate number. There are some areas where I could point to a 20% death rate, and other areas that I could point to a 0% death rate.

In united states, the above number deaths/confirmed cases is EXTREMELY inaccurate. It is all over the news how many people that have symptoms but cannot get tested in the US. Even people that have known contact with someone that is confirmed to have covid-19.

It is not all bad though. Simply self quarantine as much as possible. And anyone you are living with, do the same. The more succesful you can self quarantine the lower the chances of you getting it.

Not the regular yearly flu

Not the regular yearly flu folks...much much worse. The mortality rate of covid 19 a month ago (2.3%), almost matched the end pandemic mortality rate of the spanish flu (2.5%) As logic pointed out, the wuhan epicenter mortality rate reached its saturation of that population with a calculated mortality rate of 20%. With the present all in age data of 2.3% and the possibility of a higher mortality rate, I would like you to read the following link that shows likely mortality rates...lets hope these concerned scientists are wrong.

https://www.thelancet.com/action/showPdf?pii=S1473-3099%2820%2930195-X

I hope these numbers are incorrect...as 6% range mortality rate, may change things as we know them presently. Just watching what is happening in italy and iran right now. Italy reported 368 deaths in the last 24 hours, with 1200 dead in the last week, and over 1800 dead since the first fatality. I don't mean to scare anyone on purpose...but it is scary.

Pretty sure that's a straw man fallacy as well, as that was not the point being made.

Try this one, if your deity is perfectly good, why, according to your bible, did it torture a new born baby to death just because it was conceived in an adulterous affair?

Are there any circumstances under which it is morally acceptable to torture a newborn baby to death?
