"I would find it sad if you decide to paint all folks identified as atheist with a broad brush"
well I already been accuse for actions others in this forum did.
No I don't think all of you as clones! my mistake was in not understanding the difference between believing there is no scientific prove of God but not discounting the possibility of a God being some where. The other mistake was suggesting that an specific type of energy could be where the idea/notion of God came into our history.

yes I'm satiating my curiosity by gathering opinions from different perspective. I can't say I came here for confirmation as I don't see anything that should be confirm.

since i still stand on my choice to do neither.

Thank you all for taking the

Thank you all for taking the time to explained to me your lack of belief in religious doctrine of any kind and the reason why the scientific method in your opinion is the best way to prove or disprove something.

excuse me for not searching out evidence on the placebo effect and why it work on some but not others.

science is awesome in duplicating and copying or should I say creating? what was/is already here. at the price of destroying the world in the name of scientific research!

also is sort of difficult to respond to every comment.

Science is a tool, not a philosophy. You shouldn't categorize science as a religion. That is a fallacy argument on your behalf and why I said that you post like an evangelical.

Yep, define religion, in whichever words you want, then try to use those same describing words to describe science. You will find most all of them will not line up. Two very different things.

Lol! thanks!

Lol! thanks!
if I stay in this post long enough, I might even reach the status of pope/rabbi/pastor/priest/guru or what not by your standards!

LOL!

Far from it.

again, I didn't categorize science as a religion I stated what ousted scientist have told me from their point of view and their reasons. That science is like (similar) a religion or cult as the scientific method is the rule, keeping face or keeping people believing they know better then anyone, to the point of shutting down anyone who doesn't have a degree. even then the members have to followed the doctrine. After all it is expensive having to correct millions of books with scientific mistakes/corrections. it still totally O.K to keep this book in circulation and available to teach new students.

Yet is hard to see where all the ignorance is coming from?

@Curious
Ridiculous you get YOUR definition of science from disgruntled has-beens that were ousted?
1) Science knows that it will become outdated as more information is brought to light. That is the nature of science and true discovery.
2) Science deals in facts and the individual personalities don't matter. It's called "peer review."
4) Religion demands that it never faces scrutiny that it never be questioned, and when it bumps up against an impossibility it either screams "have faith" or "it's a miracle"!

@Myk Re: "...and when it bumps up against an impossibility it either screams "have faith" or "it's a miracle"!"

Hey, don't forget the absolute grand-slam excuse: CONTEXT!!!

Anonymous's picture
what is the responsibility of

what is the responsibility of science to the human population? is the peer review the ones that decide what information the general public should know or be educated upon?

Science who first told that we needed to save, heal, and help human kind procreate more and went as far as to fix the one that were naturally born without that option and did it with test tube babies. Males that naturally stop working due to age or other things, yea they have the blue pill for that. fast forward to the present and now it's that the world is over populated (but who help?), destroying the animals? no problem science can fix it by cloning. having too much fun and rich don't want to die? science is working in that solution too! in fact in what part of life is a branch of science not involved?

science care as much as religion on what the sheeple/guinea pig thinks! after all they know there's just way too many ignorant people who can't focus on anything further then their nose. Yet is not the people fault! after all! as who told them and raise them to be this way and with what knowledge?

in Conclusion neither is good as both used the ignorant to get what they want and dispose/extricate/banish when done.
disgruntle has been how was Einstein environment when he die? tesla? not all of them were ousted some just can't afford to blow the whistle after all they got bills to pay and family to protect.

Just a quick FYI, greensnake, time stamps on posts are dependent on the default time zone or the you chose when creating your profile. If another poster chose a different time zone then your two time stamps will not match.

Good to know. I use ctrl f

Good to know. I use ctrl f plus day/time to try and find additional new responses after the first. I probably missed a few new responses using that technique due to time zone differences creating different time stamps.

That should still work for

That should still work for you, logic. The time stamps you see are relative to the time zone you’ve chosen. Someone else may see a different time, however, based on the zone they’ve chosen.

it seems to me that science

it seems to me that science is doing it best to surpass any tale of any God by using finite resources of the earth to create a scientific heaven for those who can afford.

but technology doesn't give wisdom and the idiots keep creating/inventing shit that add and compounds problems...Fukushima what great intelligence to use something they can't even clean up! then Hide any negative press by just making a law saying not allow to speak about it.

Old man shouts at clouds's picture
@ Curious

@ Curious

"it seems to me that science"

Science didn't pass the laws prohibiting discussions of certain subjects ( Like Fukishima) lawmakers did and only in one country and before that it was the religious. Have you ever heard of the Index? here you are

"The Index Librorum Prohibitorum (English: List of Prohibited Books) was a list of publications deemed heretical, anti-clerical or lascivious, and therefore banned by the Roman Catholic Church"

Not repealed until 1966 after introduction in the 10th century, ( Nearly 1000 years of suppression for every single Catholic) however certain documentaries and movies are still discouraged if not actually prohibited from viewing for the clergy and lay members of the Church.

Perhaps you have some evidence of actual scientists prohibiting knowledge and free thought in this way?

Oh I should explain the penalty for owning, distributing or even holding a copy of a book on the Index was minimum excommunication, then mutilation, imprisonment and death in many cases...slightly more extreme than being excluded from a conference I suggest.

"Science didn't pass the laws prohibiting discussions of certain subjects"

yes, science didn't, as is not a living entity. Similar to a group made of lots of cells. Even if law makers put laws other countries did it more quietly just turning off switches, other didn't have to even say anything the population didn't even know what nuclear or much less radiation means.. Yet, Isn't it the Duty of a Human to warn other Humans? (but, we have seen what happens to those that do).

"next religion"
I think the people with power in history has had a tendency of destroying, before religion was an itch on a sperm. destruction is still here just like was and spending millions on more ways to destroy and make the innocent suffer even more.

Index
When it comes to the index it's still here in the US in existence we still have a list of books that are black listed from public school and libraries. It took I forget how many years just to get captain underpants back. They might black list it again just like the librarian consider The cat in the hat' as racist (after melania trump donated to the library).
if this political correctness and gender whatever continues to happens from my point of view the amount of suppression that can happened will make what the Catholics did like it was nothing! then again suppression of information have not really ever stop.

humm a scientist there is a paleontologist that have been advice to be careful. But I can't say much more as it wouldn't be fair to him after all he too has a job in the university,

"penalty for owning"
i think the punishment haven't change it's more calibrated to index of security,

All you are saying then, and that we agree, is that groups of people, especially those in power, will act like proper shits when challenged?

Nothing godlike or sciency about that at all. Just people being arsholes as they normally are, when confronted or challenged in their comfort zones.

Doesn't need god, flapdoodle, Loki, primal energy or the pink unicorn on a tricycle to make that true. .

Repent and embrace the true way of the Krispy Kreme Karamel ( not idolatrous strawberry) communion where we break the holy doughnut (see what I did there *giggle*) and eat the creme flesh and chocolate earth of our lady the PUoaT.

No wonder theists think we are easy prey when they read us carrying on like this...*snork, giggle*

It's stunning that often

It's stunning that often theists pigeon hole science in such a way as curious has in his/her above post.

And yet are happy to use it as a basis for evidence as their belief system gets disproven time and time again, In order to churn out some incoherent arguments during its death rattle.

How often do they require science in the Kalam cosmological argument, Or the teleological argument, and so on.

However, Going back to the OP I would personally describe Atheism as a position in which a person does not 'believe' the concept of any god, or finds no credible evidence to support the theory of a god(s).

I cannot speak to much on the subject as it isn't something I have considered at great length, as ironically it is my theist parents who labelled me an atheist.
To the contrary, I actually consider myself a naturalist, in that I hold an idea or 'belief' that only natural laws and forces operate in the world, and that everything within our reality does have an naturalistic reasoning behind it.

Sky Pilot's picture
I believe that there are no

I believe that there are no gods of any kind as popularly imagined by people in this solar system. And even if there were I would not believe in them. IOW, their existence would not make me a theist.
