On TV they keep talking about 'confirmed cases' of the virus. I also heard one the news that 1 in 4 infected people are asymptomatic .

A study in Iceland found evidence that nearly 50% of people that get infected go completely asymptomatic. Which lines up neatly with how contagious and fast spreading this virus is, and why restricting people's movement and crowds works.

If your area has excess capacity to test any and everyone that wants a test, for free, quickly and easily, multiply any confirmed case counts by at least 2 to get actual infection counts. Multiply by 5x, 10x, 20x, 100x for areas that have little to no testing, depending on severity of shortage.

Take India, that says it has roughly 5000 cases so far. I would multiply that by at least 20x. If not 100x. That is 100k to 500k cases, and spreading rapidly for india.

Also be aware even death counts are severely underreported in most places in the world.

Increasing evidence from satellite imaging and particle measures etc show that Wuhan and surrounding area had 40-50 thousand deaths, not the ~3k number China reports.

Wellness checks for remote individuals will have to be done globally. I suspect "missing person" cases will grow rapidly all over the world.

How can anyone have a full

How can anyone have a full understanding when the testing process lags the spread of this disease? That current problem is clouding the issue, and making it incredibly difficult for the medical profession to achieve decent statistics or a full understanding.

Currently, from swab to being informed of the results requires at least 24 hours, probably a lot more.

But there is an company up here in Ottawa that has created a tester that can do a test in three hours. And it is a small portable device. I hope they roll them out ASAP and to all nations that require it.

Gee, I must have missed that,.Is it in Casino Royale with Daniel Craig? That was the first book I think.

I was only 18 whenI read all the James Bond books. I was pretty naive; I actually thought the creep was sophisticated with his gunmetal cigarette case and his idiotic shaken not stirred martinis. All you get is a watery martini/cocktail as shaking will chip the ice and make it melt faster.

I've only ever had two proper cocktails, both at Raffles Hotel*** Singapore in 1970. A Singapore sling (naturally ) and a vodka Collins, often., made with fresh lime juice . Apart from that, I was a complete Philistine with booze. .Bacardi and Coke or cheap brandy and dry ginger. Drank neat cognac whenever I could afford it.

((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((9))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

***I found out very early that there was little price difference between drinking at one of the clip joints down near the docks and the lounge bar at any of the five star hotels. AND the booze wasn't watered, there were usually free nibblies and there was often free entertainment---Once Brother Jack McDuff (jazz organist) was playing in the bar at the Hilton. Gee, I miss alcohol and all the rituals surrounding its consumption. .

Funny story crank47. Back in

Funny story crank47. Back in my massive beer consumption days I used to hang out in the "seedy" part of town, some big bars full of alcoholics and hookers. Being the cheap bastard I was, draft was always the best option. But at times, it was harsh on a sober tongue. So I usually had two or three premium beers before I started ordering draft.

Yea, the rituals. Walking into a bar, finding a table, and placing a pack of smokes and twenty bucks in front of me. Set for the evening.

I was as sneaky drunk.9 Never got drunk in public. Correction ,ONCE A mate used to have 'mince pie day' around December 15..A group of his would go to his house..He'd supply all the ingredients and we would all sit round making mince pies eating delicacies and drinking lots of champagne. This once I had far too much.Asked my girl friend to drive, which she did. When we got back to her place I discovered she was even drunker than I and became quite cross.,

You know you're drunk when---you can't get out of one of those phone boxes with concertina doors.

An AA mate told me that when coming down from a binge, he saw kangaroos hopping through his lounge room. Each one had a little aboriginal jockey, in full racing colours.

ME? Nothing spectacular I'm afraid. There was this little mouse who lived at the back of the gas heater. He would come out an we would have conversations. He was very bright.

'Delirium Tremens , aka ;The horrors or The shakes" are a sign the person is sobering up. IF you ever come across a person in that state, give them a strong alcoholic drink immediately . Otherwise they could have an alcoholic seizure and die.

((((((((((((((((((((((((9))))))))))))))))))))))))))))(0))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))0))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Below , another attempt from our favourite pastor. This time he's blowing the wind of god over the virus. I think he's getting serious, because he has more helper. Two are singing, which I thought was a nice touch. This bloke is nothing if not a showman.

Addendum; I was going to add' from his private jet". by way of humour. Then I read a few of the tweets. One claims the bloke is worth $760 million and of course has a private jet. (,so god can hear him better)----And this fucking crook is paying no taxes. (??????)

Whats funny is, at least here in front range colorado, with some of the highest density of "microbreweries" in the world, the "draft" options are more expensive and considered "of better quality" than the bottled stuff.

Fancy special order "cocktails" still maintains its hold on "highbrow" rich society beverage of choice. Which in many of the more "upscale" bars in the US, go for ~20 bucks per drink including tax and tip.

MY favourite US beer was Coors. Isn't that from Colorado? Also liked Canadian Moosehead and Mexican Corona ,with a lemon wedge----This was in rural Illinois , in Summer. Had never eaten so much sweet corn, and bloody HUGE cobs. Fair dinkum, just one would feed a family of four for a week.

---and the good news today

---and the good news today is from the church charity which runs my mens group and a string of excellent aged care facilities .

They are now offering a free service of volunteers to do one's shopping and delivering it to one's door. Pretty good. That would mean I'm not tied to one supermarket and can get my Fruit and Veg cheaper and better quality.

Not all church charities are crap.

Cranky ... our local Co

Cranky ... our local Co-operative began doing this awhile back (also donations for senior food bags/toiletries) and “meals on wheels” and our local food bank.

I’m glad that you are finally getting access to some of these services, however, not all charity is coming from church groups

I donated a substantial amount of money to my local food bank. I was not alone, the local food banks need for food and money to buy food is great, but the response of private donations was even greater. It made the local news how much was given to our local food bank.

The local mega church, would run yearly drives that would usually mostly fill up the food bank's warehouse of food. Great!

In the same news article, the local food bank said they are filling and emptying their food warehouse every day due to the incredible increase and demand and matching donations. The very rich mega church looks positively scrooge like in comparison.

"’I'm glad that you are finally getting access to some of these services, however, not all charity is coming from church groups"

Thank you.

Yair, in fact I do not give money to any religious or sporting organisations.

I give to two excellent secular charities, which I researched before giving anything; Doctor's Without Borders and The Fred Hollows Foundation ***

(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((

**Fred Hollows was an Australian eye surgeon and atheist saint imo . His charity cures blindness caused by cataracts in poor ecountries as well as among aboriginal people here. $25 will restore one person's eyesight. For contrast; I had my cataracts repaired five years ago. The procedures cost $1500 . (paid fort by Medicare and my private health insurance. I paid nothing)

"Frederick Cossom Hollows, AC (9 April 1929 – 10 February 1993) was a New Zealand-Australian ophthalmologist who became known for his work in restoring eyesight for thousands of people in Australia and many other countries. It has been estimated that more than one million people in the world can see today because of initiatives instigated by Hollows, the most notable example being The Fred Hollows Foundation. "

Fred was an atheist as far as I know.,I guess he could have been a C of E priest, nobody would notice him bing an atheist.

I understand that little Tommy Cruise also nearly became a priest. With that creepy, insincere smile with no discernible brains behind it, he would have been the perfect fit for a Catholic priest

Me neither. I'm more your emotionally erect speaker. :-}

Watched Justin addressing the lowest common denominator.

OF COURSE I'm bloody well staying home! I have to go to the pharmacist to pick up my Webster pack because they do not deliver. Going in today or tomorrow , depends on when my face masks arrive. I have decided that if I MUST go out I will wear a surgical face mask as well as social distancing.

I don't know why but social distancing does not make me feel safe. Only really feel safe at home , with only Major present. We've been having some excellent conversation. Of course they'd probably be a bit better if he could talk back. .

Good personal News:

Good personal News:

Because my mens group is closed, a care worker from 'Helping Hand ' is phoning each of us every two weeks. One rang me yesterday and we had a nice chat for about 20 minutes. They will also pick up my meds and do my green grocery shopping. Supermarket will deliver my ordinary groceries. I'm relieved.

Awful General news. Huffpost US today April 9:

For the first time, the majority of people calling the sexual abuse hotline are minors. These kids often seem to be trapped with their abusers because of the virus.

Although I was and am horrified by the child sexual abuse committed by Catholic priests, I have always thought that problem is a reflection of a societal problem. Sadly, it is my feeling ( can't prove it) that child abuse MAY occur wherever a man (especially) has power over a child or children .Doesn't mean it always happens, but I think it does mean almost certainly it happens far more than we like to think about. This a problem for the too hard box. I have no idea ho wit can be even tackled.

Yes, I was abused as a child. I was 8.. It old NO ONE about that until I was 50. Courtesy the guilt and shame from a Catholic conscience.
