"Plus ca change--plus c'est la meme chose." Bien sur mon ami.

Not all change is necessarily good. The industrial revolution introduced technology which began to destroy our environment . The mid twentieth century convinced us of the truth of the great lie that standard of living equals quality of life.

The last 25 years of the twentieth century saw vast improvements in all kinds of medicinal drugs and in the wasteful science of geriatrics.

EG My grandfather died, worn out, with dementia, at age 74. My father retired earlier, developed dementia in his mid 70's and was kept alive by geriatric medicine, in misery until age 87. I expect more of the same, although not to reach 87. --and it ain't a choice, unless I choose to leave while I remain compos mentis . That doesn't appeal, enjoying life too much right now.

My mum was in care for the last year of her life, dying at 92. AT her dining room table there were five old ladies in their nineties. The oldest being 99. When I was a young man, 80 was considered extreme old age. Never saw anyone older than early 80's,NEVER saw a person of ninety.

It is my prediction that many people now in their 20's or 30's will live to be 100. The median in be 90-ish, Of course I'm assuming climate change doesn't destroy our civilisation and wondrous technology, thrusting them back to the sixteenth century. .

Guess a sign of age; I can't see the point of reaching an advanced old age if all it really means is not actually dying . Right now I am in pretty good shape,. I'm well able to look after myself and maintain , a bunch of interests, and start new ones. I appreciate every day, even though they flash by. Today is Friday. When I was in my 20's and 30's, it would only be Tuesday , if you ken.

@ Fievel Mousekewitz: What

@ Fievel Mousekewitz: What would Jesus say?

What difference would it make what Jesus said? He would still have to prove that the God he believed in was real and that it was worth worshiping? Does Jesus give us any evidence at all for the existence of his God? Does Jesus give us any good reason, other than threats of violence and promise of cakes and cookies, to believe in his version of God?

Jesus would probably invite me over for dinner so he could prove his case but I would reject the grail of fresh squeezed blood as well as the fleshy loaf. Then I would write the man off as being insane, and make up an excuse to exit. "Oh I forgot, I have to go home and clean my bathtub. I'll have to take a rain-check on this delicious feast of flesh and blood you have prepared. Remember me in your prayers. Bye!"

If I met Jesus I would have many questions, including especially questions about the biblical stories and why they can all be proved false. I would ask why the bible has a problem with homosexuals.

I wouldn't probably follow him either, as I believe in science. I guess I would use an excuse too and then leave the table.

I think the Bible mentions

I think the Bible mentions what he says, things like a healthy person doesn't need a doctor.

That's a deepity if ever there was one, I'm not even sure it's true, as preventative medicine is manifestly beneficial.

Yet I still get my Flu shots.

And even if David Killens did not need flu shots, it is great that he does get them. Why?

There is this well known, well studied, well proven phenomenon called: herd immunity.

Right now we got a serious issue with covid-19.

Even with a supposed kill rate of a mere 2 percent among known infected. (Likely, less than half of that in reality due to unreported, little to no symptom cases.)

Why is it a serious issue? In part because herd immunity on it is.. effectively zero (at least what is known about the virus so far.)

It is entirely possible covid-19 if it fully escapes containment anytime soon, will be the single biggest life changing event for the world population so far in the 21st century. I certainly hope they manage to contain it, but the damage can already be described as catastrophic to the billion+ people that live in China.

Fortunately it looks like at least for the time being, the spread is slowing in China. But then again China was willing to put 60 million people in lock down, and mostly freeze all travel and large in person events for over a billion people. Other countries can not or will not do the same if they end up with a covid-19 pandemic within their borders.

I am, curious if in person church attendance worldwide is going to slow down, in light of what happened in that church S. Korea. Do you guys think governments would ever dare shutting down church masses? My guess church attendance will go up in many places as people plead to their god ideas to spare them and try to find comfort.

Again, my hope is they do manage to contain this long enough that hospitals can keep up, and if we are real lucky, contained long enough for them to develop shots that can save people from covid-19.

You asked me to. So I went and told Jesus.

I agree talking to jesus sounds rather stupid. But I did anyways, not hard, I might of mumbled a lot. But I am sure that did not effect jesus's ability to understand what I told it.

Flatland "I think the Bible mentions what he says, things like a healthy person doesn't need a doctor."

The bible mentions unicorns and dragons, and magic tricks so forgive me if I'm underwhelmed. Healthy people are more likely to stay healthy if they have regular checkups, so this is one more thing you seem woefully ill-informed about.

"I think the Bible mentions what he says, things like a healthy person doesn't need a doctor.

Of course it does. It was cobbled together about 1800 years ago. It reflects knowledge an opinions of time. Neither theTorah nor the New Testament condemn slavery for example.

The attitude that a well person has no need of a doctor remains a common opinion in most societies, including ours.

Now I read a this next bit a long time ago, and can't remember where, so It may be considered anecdotal ; That in imperial China, those who could, paid a physician to keep them well. Payments ceased when they became ill and did not resume until they were well again. ---Imagine how different our medical system would be if based on wellness and an holistic approach.!!!

Wow I would love to see that in a large scale in a modern economy somewhere to see how succesful it is.

In many ways that is like the NHS in the UK, the Health system in France, Switzerland and the Nordic Countries. Doctors get paid by the State, in theory whether they treat you for anything or not. When you go for treatment you cease to pay tax if you do not have an income.....

It is called Universal Healthcare, the boogeyman of the US.

1. What goes into the mouth can not harm you, only what comes out of the mouth can cause you harm.
2. Washing hands before you eat is unnecessary. (bacteria and virus had obviously not evolved during the life of Jesus.)
3. Think not of tomorrow, God provides for the fucking flowers and he will provide for you.
4. Honor your mother and father unless you are with your friends, then tell them to fuck off because your real family are your friends.
5. Treat others as you would have them treat you unless they are changing money on the temple grounds, then you can beat them with a whip and chase them from the grounds.
6. "I will be back." Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ....

@RVBlake Re: "Left your family to follow me yet?"

Working on it, dude. Just getting my last bag packed. Hey, meant to ask. Do you mind if my wife tags along? Oh, and my stepson and stepdaughter? They are always up for a good road trip. Dang, almost forgot. My stepdaughter's fiance, too. Pretty sure she would not want to be gone too long without him around. And maybe our dogs and cats? Don't know how far you are planning on going, but if it is going to be more than a couple of days I have to make arrangements. Sure, my neighbor can keep an eye on them for a day or two, otherwise, I have to board them. But, then, boarding fees are expensive and I really don't like keeping them penned up for a very long time. Otherwise, though, I'm just about ready to go.

RE: OP - I wonder why I

RE: OP - I wonder why I would care? I have met Jesus several times. Each time I knew he was lying to me. The first Jesus had no idea what a saw was. The second could not make a whip out of cords. And the third had a hang up on being a vegitarian. We all know that what goes into the mouth can not harm you. I will probably meet another the next time I am asked to do a lecture at a State Facility. So far, I have heard nothing constructive from the Jesus's I have met. They just aren't worth talking to. Why would one more make any difference at all?
