"It's safer to love an idea instead of a person. You never have to argue and you never get rejected."

----and a lot wiser.

In my life, everyone I have loved has had feet of clay. Probably because I was in love with an ideal, not a person.

Imo it takes about 18 months of living with another person before one begins to see the real person . I don't believe that is necessarily deceit. I believe we all want others to see our best side, especially in a romantic relationship.

In 2000 I ran into my 'first love' after 30 years . She was in Oz visiting from the UK. She was on her second marriage, 4 kids, and decidedly rotund. We got talking, and I was invited to visit "for a few months"

----So I did that. Fair dinkum, after a week ,I was sooo grateful we had not married. She was really bossy, and more opinionated than moi. (and THAT is saying a lot) . Felt like pushing her down the stairs several times. However, still had a great time overall--went backpacking through Ireland and Scotland.

Not that the woman I eventually married was any better, and with less personality and character . Meow.

Okay, in the interest of

Okay, in the interest of trying to contribute at least a little something of relevance to this thread...

So far, I have to agree with all Whitefire has said in regards to abusive relationships. Based on my experiences in dealing with them in their various forms, she has pretty much nailed the dynamics of it. And, personally, the psychology behind it has been something of a "fascination" to me for many years. Granted, no two situations are ever exactly the same. Waaaay too many varying factors involved for that. Even so, when all the other "outward" factors are stripped away, the primary underlying theme that all abusive relationships have in common boils down to two things: Control and Fear. And in my opinion, this applies to ANY abusive relationship, be it between two or more humans, or between humans and their respective god(s).

From personal experience, I can without a doubt say I never had any love for the god I was raised to believe controlled my life. If I felt anything at all for that god it was only an uncomfortable sense of dread and fear. On top of that was the constant worry that I was never "good enough" for that god. And the only thing that kept me bound to it for so long was the constant threat of hell lurking in the back of my mind. "But - hey! - good news! God loves you!" Oh, gee, thanks. That makes things soooo much better... *rolling eyes*....

I have even had faithful Christian family members agree with me the the god of the bible is "not very nice". At the same time, though, they will also admit they NEED that same god and are too afraid to leave it. Like I said, the psychology behind it all is fascinating to me. Even more so now that I am no longer intimidated by any of it.

Another Joke then...

Another Joke then...

Doctor: "I'm sorry sir, but you have tested positive for the Covid 19 virus"

Patient: "That can't be, I have over 100 toilet rolls at home"

For those of us currently experience the asinine stupidity of panic buying in the UK.

It isn't just the UK, I'm afraid. People here are just as mind-numbingly stupid. Shelves of toilet paper and paper towels wiped clean literally overnight. Truly amazing. I weep for society.
