Everyone who read this post

Everyone who read this post in its entirety is now a shade dumber, and will have lost a precious few moments that would have been better spent trying to fill a sieve with water. Congratulations. No points for Slytherine.

I didn't make up god so it isn't my responsibility to disprove him! Morality is subjective for the umpteenth time.
Christ isn't morality. Christ is an imaginary concept and a poor one at that.
Since you are all enamored with numbers...BILLIONS of people lived and have lived just fine without christianity. In fact, those that were living without christianity were doing much better than when christianity was forced upon them.
I don't give a FLYIN' FUCK AT A ROLLIN' DONUT WHAT YOU THINK JESUS SAID. You have NO proof whatsoever there was a jesus and you sure as shit don't have any idea what he said if he did indeed exist!
Oh, and by the way, the christian morality has changed many times over the years so that PROVES that ALL morality is subjective!
You don't get to "correct" me, asshole. You need to quit fucking preaching anyway!

This sounds peaceful: "I have

This sounds peaceful: "I have come to cast fire upon the Earth; and how I wish it were already kindled! But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is accomplished! Do you suppose that I came to grant peace on earth? I tell you, no, but rather division; for from now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law." (Luke 12:49–53)
That first line...says it all.
Oh and it IS IN CONTEXT.

@Devout Christian: "jesus

@Devout Christian: "jesus said to love your neighbor not fight"

Well if you believe the myths, Jesus certainly put on a good imitation of fighting when he attacked the money-changers in the temple. And his followers down the ages have fought each other and other religions with appalling ferocity and cruelty.

devout christian,

devout christian,

Not one person in the history of humanity has ever believed in the Yeshua/Jesus character since he was first imagined. The Bible gives a simple test to prove that you have faith in Yeshua. Not one person out of billions over 2,000 years has ever been able to do it. So the conclusion must be that no one has ever believed in the character or that the character is imaginary.

You go by the moniker "devout christian". You can prove that God exists simply by doing what he supposedly said anyone who has faith can do. So do it or admit that you don't have any faith. The clock is ticking.

BTW, "Christ" is not the character's last name but merely a title.

Asking us what truth is and

Asking us what truth is and then proceeding to tell us that Jesus is truth while committing a major equivocation fallacy is not how rational discourse works. When you provide physical, tangible evidence to support the gospel of John, and physical, tangible evidence to support the claim that Jesus is, in fact, truth, then we can talk. Until then, pick up a high school level logic textbook, learn how to make rational arguments, and for God's sake, learn grammar.

It seems likely to me, based on the way Devout Christian proposed an apparently open question and then began to stir up dissent by making unsupported claims for the veracity of scripture and then appeals to the authority of john, god, and jesus, that DC simply wishes to stir up drama and go in circles.

I don't object to lively debate or real discussion, but this just seems like pointless trolling. Does this seem like real, honest questioning to anyone here?

With most Christians, this is about as close as you get to honest debate.

Oh come on. the poor fella is in agony. Wrigglin' and writhin', wrapping himself in tautological inexactitudes. Showering us with furphies, red herrings, half heard scholarship. He's having a hell of a time...think of the stories he'll be telling next witnessin' and sunday picnic church expulsions...wait...that is just like most christians in a debate...

Really? That is very sad. I

@Algebe: Really? That is very sad.

I think my issue is that s/he doesn't seem to want a debate or a discussion, but seems rather to be simply needling the group. Perhaps I'm granting too much credit here, but the wooden, artless way in which DC transitioned from an open-ended question to ill-considered appeals to authority seemed too asinine to be sincere.

Surely an honestly debating christian would at least be honest enough to state that she WAS debating in the first place, rather than performing a clumsy bait and switch? I could be wrong. I have no experience debating with christians, having only recently hopped that particular fence myself.

@Dark Re: Devout

@Dark Re: Devout

Just to help bring you up to speed a bit on our ol' buddy Devout, I picked up on the same thing you did right from the start, but then he practically switched his whole personality during a brief period when I was attempting to actually reach out to him. And then, literally overnight, he was right back to what you see now. Come to find out, there were several people who had already been dealing with him long before you and I ever came along. Therefore, this leads me to conclude he is either: A. A guy who is attempting to be sincere, but who has some sort of genuinely real psychological problem(s), in which case I sincerely feel rather bad for him, or B. He is a troll (But not a very good one)
However, if you want to see a TRULY EXPERT apologist at work in the duck/dodge/evade/deflect/shook-n-jive-bob-n-weave/contortionist arts, then you really need to go read a few of the debates involving a dude called JoC. That joker is so slick that Teflon is like, "Fuck it, I'm outta here." Particularly go check him out in the "Slavery Part 1" debate. I don't know whether to puke or be impressed by some of his crap.
By the way, good to see you around now. You seem to be a fairly quick learner, too. *chuckle*

You'll find that they have

You'll find that they have many patterns of debate, but that answering direct questions and making valid arguments and being honest are usually omitted quite overtly. You'll get the hang of it.
