Thanks for banning him again.

Thanks for banning him again.

maybe one can ban his pc, that should reduce the times he can come back by 90%

How would you propose they

How would you propose they accomplish that?

I know it can be done,

I know it can be done, because it has been done before in a game I used to play online, I just don't know how they did it.

Well, it's far easier said than done, and often just impossible. Additionally, he may not, in fact, be using a PC or even a single device.

Just requires some dedication.

It would've been nice if mintaka had actually requested that by hitting my inbox but I guess it's not a big deal.

Hi

Hi
I'd like to bring up an extremely confusing and disruptive forum functionality/behaviour.

When a user is banned or removed, all the users comments are suddenly removed as well.
This is absolutely NOT a good idea.

A small example:
http://www.atheistrepublic.com/comment/24630

My reply here was to Mintaka, not to Kataclismic.
Mintaka answered Kataclismic and misrepresented the quote in an attempt at making a joke. I then answered Mintakas post, criticizing his interpretation of the qoute.
But, now when Mintaka has been removed, it suddenly seems like I'm criticizing Kataclismic's post, which I wasn't!

This is very disruptive and confusing to the entire forum.
There are now long discussions, for example in the thread Omni-paradox, where users are apparently talking to themselves.

(This is a bit besides the point, but even if Mintaka requested that his user should be removed, I don't see the point of that. He doesn't have to log in any more.)

That said, removing a user shouldn't remove all forum posts, and I don't think banning a user should either. Individual posts could be removed instead, and for clarity all the users remaining posts could perhaps get tagged as "User banned".

Totally agree, except for

Totally agree, except for some exceptions like banned spammers.
I do think their posts should be removed.

For the rest, it is best to leave their posts where they are.

Also, requesting your user to be banned is just stupid,
There is absolutely no valid reason for it, just put retired or something in his profile.

ThePragmatic's picture
In the case of pure spammers,

In the case of pure spammers, sure. All their posts could be removed, since they are not likely to have been part of real discussions.

I just noticed another

I just noticed another problem with removing users.
All personal messages that were to/from a removed user, are no longer accessible either. Very odd behaviour indeed.

I know censoring is frowned upon and I agree with that.
But how long is the forum going to be deluded by the infantile tantrums of Kenny?

Isn't it quite obvious that Kenny (currently as "blasphemy") is trying to get banned?

Perhaps it's time to oblige him?

I'm very much afraid that I

I'm very much afraid that I am coming to the same conclusion as Pragmatic .... it may well be time now to effect a permanent ban on "Kenny" ......

People are coming to this site with genuine questions & dilema's ,

only to be greeted by Kennys offensive ,infantile and purile rantings ....

Jeff Vella Leone's picture
Yea, I never ever had any

Yea, I never ever had any doubts in the matter, all trolls should be removed.

I had a forum of my own and the damage trolls do is sometimes not easily repaired.

Especially when it comes to people in need that get the wrong impression and don't stick around long enough to get a true picture of the situation.

ThePragmatic's picture
I'm sorry to say, but I have

I'm sorry to say, but I have pretty much given up on this site.

This place is owned by Kenny now. He can write just about any nonsense he wants, even "advice" that would put people in danger. His constant tantrums is way way past an "amusing idiot". About a third of the content is his and another third is others talking about him. He has taken over the forum in the same way that Trump has taken over the election (god help us all! :P).

It just takes way too much energy to wade through the excessive amount of bullshit in the forum, to find the few posts with any real content. If I want an endless supply of pointless random antagonizing dialogue with bad grammar, I would watch something like the reality game show "Big Brother", but I don't. Neither do I see any point in continuing to visit a forum completely dominated by an imbecile.

Freedom of speech (or in this case: to refrain from censoring) isn't worth a damn if the result is to drown in such amounts of bullshit that no one can hear what anyone is trying to say.

Sorry for being grouchy, I'm in a bad mood.

Pragmatic....

Pragmatic....

That is the the most depressing post I have read in a long time....... but I do understand and sympathise with your frustrations ...but please keep a watching brief on this site.....Kenny is after all over 66 years old..... he could drop dead any day now.... any way...nil desperandum .... perhaps the mods here will finally get their act together .

Shout out to all members: is wanting to ban kenny again a consensus?

Jeff Vella Leone's picture
Just do it even if it is not.

Just do it even if it is not.

Do you need a consensus when someone breaks the law?

He was banned once for valid reasons, that is all the reason you need to keep banning him again and again for ever.
People were banned for less reasons then that. It is unfair in their regard too.
It encourages assholes to be like Kenny even more.

It has slowly dawned on me

It has slowly dawned on me over the past 6 months that the staff here is both incompetent and absent. The addition of CyberLN was an improvement, but it's like putting a band-aid on a severed leg. Kenny's open participation where he has been removed numerous times before is a symptom (and should be addressed), but it is not the real problem...

Nyarlathotep's picture
Returning to my notion of

Returning to my notion of Kenny being a symptom, not the real problem: We've got 2 anti-Semitic posts festering in the Atheist Hub now for 1-2 days. Are we waiting for Google to index and cache this material?

Edited to add: Oops, I spoke without actually checking what has happened since I got home from work. A 3rd post has now been added and the conversation has been indexed.
