Which Christian martyrs would that be, Isobel?

I noticed you don't want to talk about Pagan martyrs.
@Isobel
Hypatia didn't. She continued to teach. A mob of Christian monks physically tore her apart. Remember 1 Timothy 2, verse 12: "I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent."?
Gawd only knows how many other pagan martyrs there were. We know about Hypatia because she was one of the finest minds of her generation.I imagine after her martyrdom, many pagans realised that if Christians could do that to someone like Hypatia, they could do it to anyone - and hey presto! Instant Christian! Fear's a great motivator.

"If a person is a religious believer then everyone else who doesn't believe in his specific delusion is an atheist"
ummmm who do u talk to?! anyone who believes in a deity, whether it be Zeus or Allah or yahweh etc, is a theist, and, in fact, NOT an atheist.
@isobel: anyone who believes in a deity, whether it be Zeus or Allah or yahweh etc, is a theist, and, in fact, NOT an atheist.
The term "atheist" was first used by the Romans to refer to Christians, who rejected the Roman gods and refused to join in public ceremonies celebrating "divine" emperors.
is that how it is used today? words change whether we like it or not.
Just highlighting the irony. Now Christianity has become the mainstream, and your cult's attitude toward atheists is the same as the Romans toward Christians.
im not here to play games about wut the original meaning of words r
Well, you need to. If one does not know and understand what a word means, then the ignorance had fractured the communications.
Ask any computer programmer the difference between "if" and "if and only if". You will receive a very powerful education in computer logic.
Language is our tool for communication. And if you do not put out enough effort to communicate properly, then YOU are not communicating your thoughts properly.
@David Killens: Language is our tool for communication.
Some words carry a lot of historical baggage. To understand them fully, you need to know that history. One example is the word "trespasses" in the so-called Lord's Prayer. These days "trespass" means to go onto someone's property without permission. Historically it meant to violate someone's rights or the law. I went through years and years of morning services and scripture classes at school without really understanding the words. I suspect most Xtians still don't understand what they're singing hymns about.
I fully agree Algebe. And since atheists have witnessed so many attempts by others to obfuscate the issue by incorrect application of terms, that is why clear, concise, and specific words should be used. This is why I am attempting to cajole/push the OP into being less sloppy with her language.
isobel,
"anyone who believes in a deity, whether it be Zeus or Allah or yahweh etc, is a theist, and, in fact, NOT an atheist."
Who gives a rat's ass is someone believes in deity? Other theists sure don't. When Moses came down from the mountain and saw people exercising freedom of religion he got super pissed and killed them because they didn't believe in his delusion.
When King Asa got upset because other people believed in different gods he killed all of them. http://www.bricktestament.com/king_solomon/executing_unbelievers_brings_... 6 pictures
When some of the French became Protestants it pissed the Catholics off so much they waged long and bloody wars against them. It didn't matter that they worshiped the same deity and read the same holy book.
When Peter met Paul neither one gave a damn about Yeshua, they were concerned about guys being required to have their foreskins whacked off.
i think u missed the point of my saying that
just wanna ask, do anyone of you here in AR pm them? what did they say?
was it worth wasting your time?
@Qu@si
With minor differences to the posts here...the same so far.
and what's the point doing it pm's if there's no difference outside the forum room??
this kids really wants attention.
@ Qu@si
I consider it a waste of time.
1) Apologists exist in order to explain/do damage control on all the foolish crap that comes out of the bible.
2) Apologists exist to warp the minds of children in order to enslave them to religion.
3) All 3 came in with the same script, a sweet and non-threatening introduction, quickly offer apologies if an offense was perceived, avoid engaging, and displaying a shocking lack of knowledge of atheists.
4) Since all ran the same script, they were coached and prepared in conduct.
I did not engage in any PM's, I have zero reason to trust their motives.
@David
No matter how many times I have seen it so far, it is still amusing to me how the so-called "god-loving" self-righteous Christians come in here with their false-pretenses and attempt to deceive us with their obviously dishonest motives. Yet, when we start stating facts and telling them the truth, they tuck tail and scurrie away. And the best part is, supposedly WE (atheists) are the ones who lack personal integrity and cannot be trusted. Talk about irony overload. Sheesh! lol
did i come off as having a dishonest motive?
I PM'ed both:
isobel (student) - has asked a series of perhaps 10 questions.
Evan G Wilson (instructor) - never responded.
@Q
I got a couple of PM questions from Isobel. (I posted my answers on here somewhere.) Invited Josh to send me questions, but have not seen hide nor hair of him since. Been a crazy last few days for me, anyway. Only on here now because I'm taking a brief break.
Isobel,
If you want to PM me a handful of questions, I'll respond.

Sorry, dude. You are stuck here forever. Once you log on, it's rather like purgatory. Or Hotel California, maybe? You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave. (Courtesy of The Eagles, ladies and gentlemen.) You should have read the fine print. Don't worry, though. Old Man and I have the snacks covered.
@isobel Yes. By immaterial, I mean anything that is not some form of matter.
Numbers are an abstract concept used to represent the phenomenal world.
abstract concepts r immaterial but real
how would u define a god
@Isobel: how would u define a god
A god is an imaginary being created in human minds as the personification of vain hopes and imagined fears. A god is the primal scream of a human mind recoiling from the idea of non-existence. A god is a broken bridge on the road to knowledge and enlightenment. A god is a whip and a weapon used by evil men to impose their warped will and deviant desires on other human beings.
I find it interesting, Isobel, that you’ve said a couple of times you’re not here to argue. Then it seems you go on to argue with someone about something. Could it be that you are not here to argue when you either don’t have a substantive rebuttal or when you just don’t feel like it?
Either way, it appears you want things to always work in your favor. I can only guess this is because of your age & immaturity or because you consider yourself entitled to regularly call the shots.
